After Transmigrating into a Professional Bootlicker, I Messed Up - Chapter 71.2
“What an obedient little thing!”
Lin Luo felt ashamed of her own blushing face! Fasten her seatbelt? Did he think she, Lin Luo, needed help fastening a seatbelt? He must be kidding!
This clueless guy! Wasn’t her hint obvious? Didn’t he get that a kiss would have solved this? Why play the gentleman? So, if she didn’t bring it up, they’d just go on without any… marital life? Really?
Despite her frustration, she had to hold it in. After all, if she acted upset, she’d lose the upper hand. Fighting with Ji Chi’an? Fine, but she had to keep her cool!
Ji Chi’an glanced at her puffed-up cheeks, red like an annoyed little pufferfish. He held back a laugh and put on a serious face, pretending to be sincerely regretful. After all, his dear little wife was ruthless; one argument, and she’d threaten five years of “no intimacy.” If he was going to suffer, they might as well suffer together. She’d think twice about saying such things next time!
Being upset was fine, having a temper was fine, throwing a fit was fine, but there were things that simply weren’t up for negotiation—like sleeping together, holding hands, and their intimate married life. Some things, he’d give in to her, but some things… absolutely not.
Ji Chi’an said earnestly, “Since we didn’t let Grandpa know about our relationship before, he was thrilled when he found out. He asked me to bring you home tonight to have a family dinner and meet some relatives. It’s his way of formally setting things in stone. Would you like to come back to the Ji residence with me?”
“Since Grandpa is so enthusiastic, of course, I’ll go. I just feel bad I couldn’t bring him a proper gift on such short notice.”
Ji Chi’an had always known Lin Luo to be considerate. Even if she acted stubborn at times, she never truly crossed the line or embarrassed him in public. She was, indeed, a lovely girl who deserved to be cherished.
He couldn’t help smiling tenderly. “No need to worry about gifts; Grandpa lacks for nothing except a beautiful and well-mannered granddaughter-in-law. Just showing up today will make him happy. That’s all you need to do.”
Lin Luo thought about Grandpa Ji and figured Ji Chi’an was right. She decided to make an effort to keep Grandpa Ji company from now on and make him happy. Being good to Ji Chi’an’s family was only fair.
With that thought, she smiled and said, “For Grandpa’s sake, to keep him from worrying, I’ll allow you to hold my hand and hug me today.”
Ji Chi’an’s lips curled into a smile. “Alright.”
Lin Luo had been filming for over two months. When she left, it was summer, and now it was already autumn. The staff at the Ji residence had kept her room clean, dusted her clothes, and maintained her everyday items as they were. They’d already seen her as the future young madam, and with the announcement of her relationship with Ji Chi’an, they were eager for her to move in. Finally, the Ji household would have its mistress.
So, under Grandpa Ji’s watchful eye, they prepared a splendid welcoming dinner for Lin Luo. When she walked into the dining room with Ji Chi’an, she almost wondered if she’d stepped into an engagement party.
The whole dining area was decorated with roses as the main floral arrangement, covering a long banquet table with an intricately patterned tablecloth and elegant, aristocratic tableware, giving off a subtle, intimate candlelit glow. Grandpa Ji, for once, was in a suit instead of his usual streetwear, looking every bit the part of a refined elder.
Seeing them walk in hand-in-hand, Grandpa Ji immediately wore a benevolent smile. “Luo Luo, you’re here! Come, sit down.”
Lin Luo sweetly greeted, “Hello, Grandpa,” before sitting at her usual spot, with Ji Chi’an taking the seat across from her.
Grandpa Ji looked at her, slightly dissatisfied. “You look thinner! Has that rascal Ji Chi’an been bullying you?”
Lin Luo quickly replied, “No, he’s very good to me. Filming has just been a bit tiring.”
Grandpa Ji frowned, “Then don’t act if it’s that exhausting. Ji Chi’an makes more than enough, so just let him do the hard work. You just need to enjoy yourself; our Ji family’s daughters-in-law should never suffer.”
“Grandpa,” Ji Chi’an interrupted him, “Luo Luo loves her job.”
Hearing this, Grandpa Ji seemed to understand. “Acting is good! With a face like Luo Luo’s, she should be acting! Go win a Best Actress award, and this old man will have something to brag about. Ji Chi’an, if she wants to act, make sure you invest in her projects! If you don’t, I will!”
Lin Luo recognized their casual words as a subtle way of honoring her wishes. That unspoken respect was rare, and she felt incredibly grateful. She didn’t deserve such kindness and couldn’t help feeling moved.
She took Grandpa Ji’s hand, “Thank you, Grandpa.”
“Why the thanks? We’re family. There’s no need for that,” Grandpa Ji said, patting her hand gently. “But don’t cry! An old man like me can’t bear to see you young ones cry.”
Lin Luo nodded, her face brightening into a sweet smile.
Seeing her smile, Grandpa Ji couldn’t help but think of his late wife, remembering the hardships Lin Luo had endured—losing her family, enduring hurtful gossip, yet still remaining kind-hearted. The more he thought about it, the more he adored her. Unable to hold back, he kicked Ji Chi’an under the table. “You brat, you better treat Luo Luo right. If you don’t, I’ll kick you out of the family!”
“Don’t worry, Grandpa. I’ll treat Luo Luo well for the rest of my life.” Ji Chi’an reassured Grandpa Ji while looking directly at Lin Luo.
Hearing his words and feeling his gaze, Lin Luo’s cheeks grew warm as she lowered her head.
But Grandpa Ji wasn’t letting her off so easily. He turned his smiling face toward her and asked, “Luo Luo, will you also treat Chi’an well for the rest of your life?”
Lin Luo bit her lip, looked back at Ji Chi’an, and said softly, “I will.”
Her words were gentle, but her tone was full of conviction.
Grandpa Ji immediately beamed. “Great! Bring out my best wine! I haven’t felt this happy in years. You both have to drink with me tonight!”
The moment he finished, the servants brought out several decanters of wine and brandy, clearly pre-planned for this event.
Ji Chi’an glanced at Grandpa Ji’s gleeful expression, then at Lin Luo, blissfully unaware as she poured herself another glass. Ji Chi’an could tell Grandpa Ji had been watching too many romance dramas, but he didn’t say a word. He simply raised his glass and drank with them.
A true Grandpa indeed.
Seeing Lin Luo’s rosy cheeks and slightly dazed expression from the wine, Ji Chi’an’s face broke into a mischievous smile.
🎭 Behind the Curtain with Kliraz: Ji Chi’an, Grandpa, and the Real Family Drama 🎭
Family dinners in China often double as “testing grounds” for future family members. Ji Chi’an’s grandpa’s subtle “pep talk” about spoiling Lin Luo shows the importance of elders approving romantic relationships in Chinese culture!
Roses in Chinese settings symbolize devotion or eternal love. Grandpa really went all out by decking out the room—he’s basically saying, “We already claim you!” ❤️
Lin Luo’s anxiety to avoid losing face while keeping her pride shows a deep awareness of “saving face,” a core aspect of Chinese culture. This means she hides her feelings to avoid “losing the upper hand” emotionally.
That “forbidden intimacy” strategy she thinks about actually dates back to traditional “testing” in arranged marriages! Lin Luo is keeping Ji Chi’an on his toes with an ancient move here. (¬‿¬)
