After Transmigrating into a Professional Bootlicker, I Messed Up - Chapter 70.2
Director Li Sen gathered his thoughts, then spoke in a serious tone, “Lin Luo, you’ve entered this industry from a high starting point, and yes, your looks and talent are decent—but they aren’t enough. You still lack experience. Acting isn’t a skill you can master overnight; you need to keep honing it slowly. Do you understand?”
Lin Luo nodded. “I understand, Director.”
“And one more thing.” Director Li frowned, reluctant to bring it up but too concerned to stay silent. “This relationship you have with President Ji—we’re outsiders, so it’s not our place to judge. Good or bad, you know what it is. President Ji is young, accomplished, and upright; we can all see he’s outstanding. But, Lin Luo, you must remember not to let his brilliance overshadow your own. Always focus on becoming your best self, not just ‘Mrs. Ji.’ I’ve seen too many talented, spirited women end up fading into the background because of love and marriage. I don’t want that to happen to you.”
If the first part of his speech was just a standard piece of guidance from a mentor, the second part hit Lin Luo straight in the heart, filling her with gratitude and a sudden sense of purpose.
Don’t let your brilliant partner eclipse you; instead, work to shine as brightly as he does.
After all, Cinderella won the prince’s heart not because she was ordinary, but because she was secretly a noble with a fairy godmother’s magic. No prince would marry a real Cinderella. She realized she had been too spoiled by Ji Chi’an, too dependent on him, and nearly lost sight of herself. Director Li’s words snapped her back. She couldn’t just be his pampered little songbird; she needed to grow stronger. An unbalanced love, where one partner is far too powerful, would only lead to heartbreak.
Lin Luo bowed deeply to Director Li. “Thank you, Teacher Li Sen.”
When Lin Luo returned to Beijing, the air had a slight chill, with the rustling feel of autumn setting in. She could finally afford a first-class ticket now, and she and Fang Xi practically strutted out of the VIP exit.
Dressed in a custom dress that showed off her slim waist, Lin Luo wore her signature CL red-bottomed heels, casually fluffing her long, wavy hair. She slipped on her sunglasses to hide the half-hour’s worth of eye makeup she’d worked on during the flight, revealing only her sharp chin and tempting red lips.
Behind her, Fang Xi rolled up her sleeves, waving her arms protectively. “Hey, give us some space, please! No pictures of our artist!”
It was quite the scene, and Lin Luo looked every bit the A-list celebrity in a classic airport fashion show.
Except there were no fans there to greet her.
Looking around the empty airport, Lin Luo pouted. “What’s this? I’m always trending, with all this hype like I’m some top star, and no one’s here to meet me? Where’s my fan club? Didn’t they promise they’d be my die-hard fans? And here I was, even following them back. Hmph.”
Fang Xi awkwardly adjusted her black-framed glasses, unable to bring herself to tell Lin Luo that her fan club was probably too busy helping her “bulk up” to bother organizing an airport shoot. Actually, this reminded Fang Xi that it was time to set up a proper fan club, an official social media account, and even an anti-hate team…
There was so much to do, and as a single assistant, she could barely manage. But Ji Chi’an still hadn’t arranged a manager or a new team for Lin Luo, clearly preferring to keep his “little songbird” sheltered, only letting her play at a career and then pulling her back home to pamper her.
Still, seeing Lin Luo shine on screen was such a beautiful sight. She absolutely glowed. As both her assistant and fan, Fang Xi genuinely hoped Lin Luo would keep going. As a friend, she also knew how deeply Ji Chi’an cared for her.
Just as Lin Luo sighed about her nonexistent fan reception, Fang Xi spotted something shocking and gasped.
Lin Luo jumped at Fang Xi’s outburst, lowering her sunglasses with a frown. “What’s with the dramatics? Did you see a ghost?”
“Luo Luo, turn around…” Fang Xi raised her arm, pointing behind Lin Luo.
Lin Luo turned—and froze.
Standing there was Ji Chi’an. That alone wasn’t surprising—him not showing up would’ve been. What stunned Lin Luo and Fang Xi was the entourage of people neatly lined up behind him. Each person held a banner featuring Lin Luo’s photo and messages of support, while two photographers with massive cameras continuously clicked away at her.
While Lin Luo was still processing, Ji Chi’an was already standing in front of her, smiling warmly as he looked down. “It’s been two weeks. I’m allowed to get close to you again, so I came to take you home.”
🌸 Kliraz’s Insightful Corner 🌸
Director Li’s advice reflects a vital cultural concept in China: not letting one’s identity be overshadowed by a partner’s success. This hits Lin Luo hard, reminding her that even if Ji Chi’an is dazzling, she must work to shine independently. (´。• ᵕ •。`)
And then we see Ji Chi’an’s entrance with banners and paparazzi! This surprise echoes a familiar scene in Chinese idol culture—when fans arrange elaborate greetings for their idols. For Ji, though, it’s psychology in action; he’s proving he’s Lin Luo’s number one “fan” and willing to publicly show it. (*≧▽≦)
If you were Lin Luo, would this fanfare win you over, or would you need even more proof of his commitment? (。•̀ᴗ-)
