“Ji Chi’an.”

Lin Luo’s voice suddenly turned icy, cold as a snake slithering up Ji Chi’an’s back, sending a chill down his spine. He realized what he’d just said, pausing mid-motion, then pursed his lips and replied in a casual tone, “Mm,” pretending nothing had happened.

“Get off me!” Lin Luo’s voice was sharp.

Ji Chi’an got up obediently, straightened his collar, and commented lightly, “Good girls don’t use bad language.”

His calm, unbothered expression gave away nothing.

Lin Luo stared hard at his handsome, composed face, trying to catch any hint of what was going on in his mind, but Ji Chi’an was a master at keeping his emotions hidden. She couldn’t read him at all.

But she still trusted her suspicion.

She was now certain, Ji Chi’an could read minds.

The first time she’d bet those ten boxes of 001, Ji Chi’an had been in the shower. She’d said nothing out loud, so how did he know about it? And then there was his constant point-deducting whenever she privately praised him, which never made sense—until now. He must’ve overheard her silent complaints.

When she’d moved into the apartment next to his, he’d somehow known her every fear, setting things up perfectly to strike her vulnerabilities. Was it all design? But how could he have planned it so precisely without knowing her thoughts?

Then there was the incident with Ning Fei. He’d told her to trust him, and she had, without probing further. But how did he know Ning Fei and Liang Yu’s every move, predicting each step down to the second? Smart, yes, but no one could be that smart, accounting for every possible twist without exception.

And, whenever she’d played coy with him, he never took her deflections seriously. It was as if he was certain that she truly cared for him, deep down.

There was also the business world rumor that when you sat across from Ji Chi’an, you felt stripped bare, laid open.

And that Bluetooth earpiece that he never took off his right ear.

Now that she saw the full picture, everything clicked into place—like stringing scattered pearls that, once connected, formed a single, glimmering line.

She looked at Ji Chi’an, saying nothing, waiting for him to admit it himself.

Seeing her expression, Ji Chi’an knew she’d pieced it all together. She might be a bit naïve, but she wasn’t stupid. He rarely slipped up, but being around her had lowered his guard. And, well, in that recent moment, he had been… a little too caught up.

Women could be dangerous, he thought, especially his little one. But really, with a woman this stunning, was it so wrong to let his guard down?

He sighed, tapping his right earpiece. “It’s all thanks to this ear.”

Though Lin Luo had suspected as much, hearing Ji Chi’an admit it out loud still surprised her. After a moment, she quickly came to terms with it. She’d transmigrated into a book, after all, so why couldn’t he have mind-reading abilities? Nothing was really impossible anymore.

So she just blinked and let out a quiet, “Oh.”

The atmosphere grew awkwardly calm, almost too calm for a revelation like this. Both of them felt as if this secret deserved more fanfare, and yet they had no idea how to proceed.

It was Ji Chi’an who finally broke the silence. He sat down beside her, holding her hand gently as he began to speak. “I developed this ability when I was five.”

He spoke in a steady, detached tone, as though narrating a stranger’s story. He glossed over the loneliness and struggles of his childhood, recounting the past as if it had faded into insignificance. But when he began talking about why he used his ability on her, all the little tricks he’d employed to win her over, and the warmth and happiness he’d felt hearing her thoughts, his words grew alive with meaning.

“Back then, you stuck to me every day, always complimenting me, always saying sweet things. How could I not believe you liked me? Here I thought, ‘This little girl really likes me, and she’s quite charming. Maybe I kind of like her, too.’ But then, whenever I asked, you flatly denied liking me. What was I supposed to think? I figured you were just shy. But when I turned off my earpiece, I realized—you really didn’t like me. Don’t you think that’s maddening?” Ji Chi’an shook his head, amused.

Lin Luo, feeling guilty, burrowed herself closer into his arms.

“After that, I started noticing how different you are. The things you thought about, the way you’d mutter away in your mind—half the time it was endearing and funny, and the other half, it was silly beyond reason. You’re sharp with everyone else, but when it comes to me, you get adorably clueless. I found every little thing about you captivating.” Ji Chi’an brushed his fingers through her hair with a look full of fondness. “You’re different from anyone else. I’ve never heard anything dark or ugly in your thoughts. There’s a bit of mischief, sure, but it’s the cutest kind of mischief.”

🌈 Kliraz’s Mind-Reading Revelations (≧ω≦)🌟

The earpiece Ji Chi’an uses here is a high-tech twist on the classic “spy trope.” In real life, mind-reading isn’t on the table, but secrets? Absolutely. Many CEOs are rumored to have that sixth sense when it comes to reading the room!

Ji Chi’an’s control stems from his early isolation with this power, making him hyper-aware of his surroundings and others’ thoughts. But Lin Luo’s open, genuine nature clearly brings him something he didn’t know he needed. (´。• ᵕ •。`)

“Matching energies” is huge in romance. His calm but vulnerable reveal and her quiet acceptance are two sides of a coin—she finds stability in his quiet but sure affection, while he’s hooked by her unfiltered thoughts! This is a power couple in the making.
