Ji Chi’an wasn’t convinced. He replied calmly, “The real problem is that they can’t find anything wrong with you. You’re clearly not okay. Even Fang Xi mentioned that you’ve been losing weight no matter how much you eat. And last night, you were… you really scared me.”

“I’ve just been overworking myself lately. And I just had a nightmare last night.”

“What kind of nightmare would scare you that badly? I couldn’t wake you no matter how hard I tried.” Ji Chi’an’s tone grew sharper. “Lin Luo, don’t keep things from me. Tell me, and I’ll help you solve it.”

Lin Luo gently placed her hand over his, softly pleading, “Don’t be so harsh, please.”

With that sweet, gentle tone, Ji Chi’an’s frustration melted instantly. He sighed. “I’m not angry. I’m just worried about you. If something’s wrong, remember I’m here for you. I’m your partner; I can protect you and handle anything that comes your way.”

Some things are beyond your reach, Ji Chi’an. No matter how capable you are, you’re still human. How can you stand up to beings from higher dimensions, who control space and time, creating their own particle trajectories? All we can do is play by their rules.

Other than waking up in a bad mood sometimes, it didn’t really affect her daily life. She genuinely didn’t want to burden him with it.

She didn’t mind telling him she was a transmigrator; she believed he would understand and trust her. But she couldn’t bring herself to tell him everything about the system and her tasks, because she didn’t want to weigh him down or deprive him of his happiness.

After everything he’d done to protect her, it was her turn to protect him. That was how she would protect him.

With her mind made up, Lin Luo pouted, her gaze downcast, putting on a pitiful expression. “I… just dreamed that you, uh… you slept with me.”

Ji Chi’an: …

Grinding his teeth, he hissed, “Lower your voice. The doctor’s right outside. And… you’re telling me you were terrified because you dreamed I slept with you?”

If that was the case, he might be a bachelor for life.

Lin Luo pursed her lips, continuing her “heartbroken” act, “Then you abandoned me. You kicked me out, leaving me all alone. It was awful. I was so miserable. You didn’t want me, and nobody else would, either.”

She’d just been making it up, but as she spoke, a genuine sense of hurt welled up in her. Soon, her voice choked up, and big tears began to fall, soaking into the pure white sheets.

Seeing her cry, Ji Chi’an panicked. He pulled her into his arms, gently wiping away her tears. “Hey, don’t cry, don’t cry. I’ll never leave you. Even if you leave me, I’ll never let you go. I’ll always be by your side. No matter what, you can’t get rid of me, okay?”

Having never comforted anyone before, Ji Chi’an was clumsy, acting like a confused child, which somehow only made Lin Luo cry harder. She clung to him, sobbing, “Promise me, okay? You’re not allowed to abandon me. Even if I leave you, you have to come find me.”

“Alright, alright.” Ji Chi’an patted her back softly, comforting her like a child.

Her sadness seemed real. It must have been a nightmare, but was that all? He’d asked her directly, and even tried to read her mind, but everything in her thoughts told him she was fine. Her health report showed no issues, either.

Still, an indescribable unease lingered in his mind, but he didn’t want to push her.

He continued to gently rub her back, asking in a soft voice, “Luo Luo, are you really okay?”

“‘m fine,” Lin Luo mumbled, sniffling.

“How about I stay with you through the rest of filming, and we go home together?”

Lin Luo knew he still wasn’t fully convinced and suspected her strange nightly behavior had given her away. But if she limited her points for a while, keeping things normal, it would be fine. They’d go back to the capital, and she’d reduce the points again then. There was no need to worry him.

So she obediently nodded. “Alright, but won’t it interrupt your work?”

“Don’t worry about it. I’m not that busy.” Ji Chi’an patted her head, smiling.

All his hard work was for this—for the power to protect the person he cared about most. Being with her was his top priority, even if it was just a nightmare. He wanted to be there to comfort her as soon as she woke.

He couldn’t stand to see her even a little sad. Her pain tugged at his heart; perhaps he was making up for something from a past life. Either way, she was his precious little ancestor.

When Ji Chi’an showed up on set and moved into Lin Luo’s room, nobody in the crew was surprised.

After all, they’d had more than enough PDA from following the internet.

The hashtags, each with photos attached, had monopolized the trending lists, brazenly reminding the public of their own single, lonely, budget-bound lives.

Oh, so you’re rich? So you’re good-looking? So you have a fiancée to show off?

But did that stop you from watching her film love scenes with someone else?

The single crew members, including the directors and writers, were quietly plotting to make the next scene as difficult as possible for him. If no one dared challenge Ji Chi’an in real life, they’d make it happen in the story. Bitterness turns into bold revenge!

Even Li Sen kept his comments to himself, thinking that a bit of jealousy and frustration would only strengthen their bond.

It wasn’t until makeup that Lin Luo remembered the scene and panicked. Wait—this dress. THIS dress?!

It was that special qipao, tailored specifically to tear apart more easily for her bed scene. She’d been scheduled to film it in two days, and now they’d pushed it up without telling her?! She would never have let Ji Chi’an visit the set today if she’d known!

Glancing back at Ji Chi’an, who was casually flipping through the script, she swallowed nervously. “Um… Ji Chi’an, maybe you could… go back to the hotel?”

Ji Chi’an raised an eyebrow.

She forced an awkward smile. “It’s just… it’s inconvenient.”

“What’s inconvenient?” Ji Chi’an looked up.

Looking guilty, Lin Luo confessed, “Today, we’re filming the scene on page 52.”

Ji Chi’an turned to page 52, where a green highlighter boldly marked the line: “The young commander threw Yun Wan onto the bed, tearing her qipao…”

🎉 Kliraz’s Sparkling Corner (≧◡≦)

Qipaos, known for elegance, are traditionally prized in China. A tearable qipao? Totally taboo—but classic in romance dramas, it’s all about the “tension”! Lin Luo’s horror is relatable! ≧ω≦

Ji Chi’an’s anxiety reflects an interesting aspect of attachment—secure, but with a hint of protectiveness. Even a small worry triggers his “stay close and protect” mode.

“Dog food” (狗粮) in Chinese internet slang refers to couples publicly showing affection, making singles feel left out. Ji Chi’an and Lin Luo’s constant PDA is premium “dog food.” Feeling fed yet?
