After Transmigrating, I Died of Depression Without My Phone - Chapter 89.1
Long Xiang couldn’t help but burst out laughing at Bai Qingyin’s words.
If someone didn’t know any better, they might have thought they were looking at a scene straight out of the classic Nezha Conquers the Dragon King!
“So, you’re playing the game of ‘returning the flesh to the mother and the bones to the father,’ huh!” Long Xiang sneered.
She realized that Bai Qingyin, once her original plan failed, seamlessly transitioned to plan B without a hint of guilt or hesitation. Her face remained calm, as though it was the most natural thing in the world. [Truly, someone determined to achieve great things doesn’t bother with minor details.] Long Xiang couldn’t help but admire her for this, yet at the same time, she was angry and worried—afraid that Beiting Xue, or rather Xiao Xue, might actually fall for her manipulations and give up his dragon bloodline.
“Wait,” Long Xiang hurriedly ran over to Beiting Xue’s side, grabbing his arm. She turned to Bai Qingyin, her tone sharp. “What you said isn’t right.”
Bai Qingyin smiled and replied softly, “Oh? What part of it is wrong? Has he not transformed into a dragon? Has he not become a Dragon God?”
Long Xiang didn’t let herself get tangled in her web of words. “What you said refers to the result, but what about the cause and process? The result, I’ll agree with, but let’s talk about the reasons.”
Long Xiang grinned, then continued, “You say he repaid the Northern Court by giving them centuries of peace, and that he repaid Beiting Changyuan’s lingering life by killing him. But then you claim he owes you nothing? Haven’t you been borrowing luck all these years?”
Bai Qingyin scoffed. “That luck is worthless compared to my bloodline.”
“Oh, yes, of course it’s not,” Long Xiang nodded, agreeing first. Seeing Bai Qingyin’s surprise, she then changed her tone. “But the problem is, when you were pregnant with him, you weren’t yet a dragon, were you?”
Bai Qingyin froze.
“Twisting the timeline like this won’t work,” Long Xiang said calmly. She wasn’t Bai Qingyin’s child and wasn’t affected by any emotional or physiological manipulation from her words. She could keep a clear head.
“If you were already a dragon at that time, why would you bother having a child with someone you despised? The fact that you gave birth means you were still missing something. If you think about it, Beiting Xue helped you. You cut out his spiritual root and handed it to Beiting Changyuan. That’s what made him drop his guard around you, allowing you to gain the final piece to become a dragon. Am I right?”
At this point, Bai Qingyin’s expression was no longer as composed.
She casually replied, “No matter what, I carried him for ten months and gave birth to him. He owes me from the moment he was born.”
Long Xiang’s tone slowed down, her expression growing tense as she noticed Beiting Xue’s body stiffening beside her.
She held his arm tightly, appearing to restrain him from acting on Bai Qingyin’s words, but in reality, she was also trying to soothe him.
She gently stroked his forearm, feeling his muscles tighten further instead of relaxing. Sighing in frustration, Long Xiang thought to herself how lucky she was to have a loving mother.
Because of this, sometimes it was difficult for her to understand how Bai Qingyin could go to such extremes.
Yet, when she considered the pursuit of power and becoming a ruler, it didn’t seem so unimaginable.
She opened her mouth, hesitated for a long moment, and finally said, “If you had truly intended to raise him, only giving him life, then what you said wouldn’t be wrong.”
Bai Qingyin narrowed her eyes, silently waiting to see what Long Xiang would say next.
“But your purpose for having him was only for his spiritual root and for your eventual departure.”
“He wasn’t the child you wanted; he was a tool for your success. Once a tool has served its purpose, you discard it. Now, you’ve come back to destroy him completely. There’s no justification for that.”
Long Xiang didn’t want to say this.
She could feel Beiting Xue’s body growing stiffer with every word she uttered.
Although her words were a rebuttal to Bai Qingyin, they also inflicted deep wounds on Xiao Xue.
All of his misery, all of his suffering, was laid bare in the open, raw and bleeding.
She and Bai Qingyin were verbally sparring, but the one truly being hurt was this silent figure beside her.
Suddenly, Long Xiang didn’t want to say anything anymore.
She pushed Beiting Xue aside and coldly said, “Leave this to me. You don’t need to get involved.”
She expected him to remain silent, or if not leave, at least say nothing. But unexpectedly, he spoke up.
And he had no intention of leaving. Instead, he pulled Long Xiang behind him.
“This is my matter to deal with. How can I let you shoulder it for me?”
Beiting Xue’s voice was calm, even a bit indifferent.
He stood tall in his white robes, adorned in red, with his black hair tied in a silver crown. Although his hands were empty, and he hadn’t even released any spiritual energy, his mere step forward caused Bai Qingyin to instinctively take a step back.
“After all this talk, your goal is just to weaken my strength and have me destroy myself,” Beiting Xue said, slightly frowning as if troubled. “Why do you, the Monster Queen, believe that I killed Beiting Changyuan out of some twisted sense of repayment for those supposed centuries of peace and life?”
“Did I need a reason to kill him?”
Beiting Xue stared at his mother quietly. “I killed him. That’s it. Do I need any excuse for that?”
Bai Qingyin narrowed her eyes.
“Even if he hadn’t received anything, if he was in my way, I would kill him. Whether he was my father or not, a worthless existence is only a nuisance. His death simply clears the path.”
Bai Qingyin responded slowly, “Hearing you say that really surprises me.”
“Anyone can be surprised, but you shouldn’t be. Isn’t this exactly what you taught me?”
Bai Qingyin’s entire body trembled.
“Your teachings, Monster Queen, I have learned them thoroughly. Your endless words are merely to stall for time and worsen the situation in the monster realm.” Beiting Xue’s voice was calm as he spoke, “I assume you don’t care, since you’ve already decided you don’t want that place anymore.”
“The death of the monster realm’s young master at the hands of the monsters shouldn’t matter much to you either, right?”
What?
Bai Fusheng… dead?
Long Xiang’s eyes widened, and not far away, Bai Qingyin showed a flicker of reaction.
Though her concern was faint, it was enough to be noticed, and to Beiting Xue, it was deeply ironic.
Even that small, insignificant flicker of care was something he had never received.
His own mother had tried to kill him several times, wishing him dead without a trace, yet here she was, concerned, if only briefly, about the death of her son by another man.
That brief moment of concern was like a thorn stabbing deep into Beiting Xue’s heart, though it no longer caused him pain.
A heart that had been pierced by countless arrows could hardly feel the sting of one more.
“Instead of worrying about others, Monster Queen, perhaps you should think about yourself. After countless attempts to kill me, now that you’ve come to me yourself, don’t expect to leave here peacefully.”
Xiao Xue shook his sleeve, and a powerful gust of wind, infused with dragon energy even stronger than Bai Qingyin’s, swept through the hall, leaving her momentarily stunned.
Bai Qingyin hesitated for a moment, then chuckled softly. “In the end, you really are the son most like me. As for Fusheng… he still falls short.”
“He’s already dead, and yet you still pass judgment on him. Truly, there’s no peace even in the River of the Dead.”
Beiting Xue effortlessly shifted into his half-dragon form, his voice cold and venomous. “You dare speak of fairness to me? Do you think I care? There is no fairness in this world. Even if it exists, it’s nothing more than the charity of the strong to the weak.”
Long Xiang could sense something was terribly wrong with Beiting Xue.
He didn’t seem affected by Bai Qingyin’s words at all, showing no intention of destroying the dragon veins.
But mentally, he was clearly not in a good state!
Long Xiang gently tugged at his sleeve, trying to calm him down. Yet when Beiting Xue looked over at her, his impossibly handsome face made her second-guess herself. He still appeared calm.
“Wait for me outside.”
His voice was gentle when he spoke to her. Only after she nodded in agreement did he activate the formation to send her out of the Hall of Souls.
Since he was going to confront Bai Qingyin directly, fewer distractions would be better. With Long Xiang out of the way, he would have fewer concerns.
Holding her phone, she returned to the surface, sprinting out of the hall, trying to distance herself from the battlefield. She didn’t dare go too far, afraid that if something went wrong, she wouldn’t be able to help in time.
