After Transmigrating, I Died of Depression Without My Phone - Chapter 87.2
Long Xiang accepted his response, then asked, “And when did you place the protective heart scale in my body?”
She had asked this question once before, but at that time, Beiting Xue hadn’t answered.
Now, she was asking again, unwilling to let it go without an answer.
Beiting Xue hesitated for a moment, then whispered in her ear, “…During dual cultivation.”
…No wonder she hadn’t noticed a thing!
What a perfect moment for him to do something like that!
Long Xiang’s expression shifted unpredictably, and after a while, she said, “You even had the focus to think about this during that?”
She wrapped her arms around his shoulders, her voice a little muddled as she spoke amidst the “fireworks” and rain, “Looks like I didn’t do enough if you were still able to focus on other things.”
“Tonight, I’ll put in extra effort and see if you still have the energy to think about anything else.”
Beiting Xue found himself being pulled back inside, wanting to explain.
“That wasn’t ‘nothing.’ It was a precious treasure, lost and recovered. I had to find a way to protect it.”
From a young age, Beiting Xue had been stripped of his spiritual roots and forced to borrow both life and luck, living a life of decline. The only thing he still had of value was his protective heart scale.
Beiting Changyuan had tried multiple times to take his heart scale, but failed each time because Beiting Xue refused to give it up.
Yet he had happily given it to Long Xiang, fearing only that she wouldn’t want it. So, he had placed it in her quietly, without leaving a trace for her to notice.
The silk sheets twisted, the red hues swayed, and in the haze of the moment, Beiting Xue finally realized that Long Xiang’s promise to “put in effort” was not just talk.
She truly intended to leave him so completely captivated that he wouldn’t be able to think of anything else.
She wasn’t completely without concern, though. She still remembered to ask, “Are you physically up for this?”
Beiting Xue couldn’t help but admire her for asking such a question at a time like this.
“You’ll find out soon enough.”
And so, Long Xiang did a thorough test.
While they enjoyed their bridal chamber and endless dreams of desire, the monster realm was a scene of utter chaos.
Monsters couldn’t be destroyed by explosions alone, but the power of the blasts from within their bodies was enough to inflict serious damage on the once impenetrable defenses of the monster realm.
The monster realm had always mocked the demon realm for its incompetence, with Hua Lanye behaving arrogantly for years and frequently showing disrespect to the Monster Queen. Receiving a bit of punishment wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. If Hua Lanye were truly defeated, the human realm could claim to have helped rid the Monster Queen of her greatest enemy.
The monsters had always believed that the human realm was the easiest to bully. Centuries of oppressing cultivators had made them forget that during the glory days of the cultivation world, the monsters had been forced to bow low, some even serving as slaves.
Bai Qingyin stood in the air, watching her soldiers form ranks to fend off the monsters. Her gaze occasionally shifted to the devastated regions below, where powerful monsters had the strength to flee, but the weaker ones could only accept their fate and wait for death.
Beiting Xue didn’t care at all about these monsters who shared half his bloodline.
It was understandable, given that he had been raised as a human, surrounded by the selfish royals of the Northern Court.
Expecting him to be kind-hearted and empathetic? Those monsters would have to rename themselves after Long Xiang before he’d care.
The thought made Bai Qingyin chuckle aloud, and Bai Fusheng, seeing his mother laugh, grew worried that she had been driven mad by rage.
Ever since learning the truth of Beiting Xue’s identity, Bai Fusheng had been avoiding his mother, reluctant to face her directly.
Now, in a rare encounter, his mother’s reaction seemed anything but normal. He hesitated for a long time before finally speaking.
“Mother.” He took a deep breath and said, “I will help you. No matter what you want, I’ll give everything I have to help you. I’ll never oppose you, and I won’t betray you.”
Bai Qingyin paused, turning to look at the child she had raised at her side. Suddenly, she realized how ridiculous her thoughts had been.
Beiting Xue was someone she had cast aside. Why was she still expecting so much from him?
If anything, it made her seem like the one who couldn’t let go.
She sighed. “You’ll help me?”
Bai Fusheng nodded immediately, his demeanor and tone filled with determination.
Bai Qingyin stared at him for a moment before saying, “Then go and lure the monsters out of the monster realm. If they’ve descended upon us, it’s clear Hua Lanye can no longer control them. He’s likely too afraid to show himself because, if he does, he’ll be devoured by the monsters. Once that happens, they’ll only grow stronger and become even harder to deal with. Don’t expect him to be of any use. For now, I have no way to eliminate the monsters.”
She paused, then continued, “Since Beiting Xue managed to lure the monsters here, can you think of a way to get rid of them?”
Bai Qingyin had been observing the situation for some time. She had thought of ways to solve the crisis in the cultivation world. Of course, she had a plan.
But she didn’t reveal it. Since her son wanted to prove himself, she’d give him a chance.
She was also curious to see if the child she had raised by her side for so many years was any stronger than the one she had abandoned and left to suffer.
Bai Fusheng stared blankly at his mother, surprised that she would send him directly into the most dangerous situation.
But he quickly composed himself.
He was the young master of the monster realm. It was his duty to take on this task.
His mother sending him there was also a sign that she finally acknowledged his maturity and believed he could act on behalf of the monster realm.
He couldn’t afford to let her down.
He no longer had the luxury of disappointing her again.
With his spear in hand, Bai Fusheng charged toward the front lines. Bai Qingyin watched him disappear into the chaos, her expression calm, lost in thought.
Soon, the Monster Lord arrived, panic in his voice. “Your Majesty, you’ve sent Fusheng to the front?!”
Bai Qingyin responded coldly, “Is there a problem?”
The Monster Lord blurted out, “It’s far too dangerous there, how could you—”
He cut himself off mid-sentence, falling into silence before speaking again, “No, there’s no problem.”
Without even glancing at him, Bai Qingyin said, “I have other matters to attend to. You’ll stay here, pretending to be me, and make sure no one notices I’m gone.”
“But what about the monsters…”
“Are you all completely useless? If you can’t drive them away, can’t you at least contain them? Fusheng is on the front lines, isn’t he? If Beiting Xue can handle it, Fusheng should be able to as well. What are you so worried about?”
“Unless, of course, you think my son’s blood is inferior to that of Beiting Changyuan’s ‘pretty puppet?’”
The Monster Lord’s face darkened, and he fell silent, unable to argue. Bai Qingyin turned and left without a second glance, unsurprised by his reaction.
Power and cultivation had always been intoxicating.
Once you held power and status, you could do whatever you wanted. You could say whatever you liked, and no one could trample on your joys and sorrows.
Bai Qingyin was enamored with this kind of power and desired to reach its pinnacle. For that, she was willing to sacrifice anything.
What was wrong with that?
She never thought it was wrong, not then, and not now.
What she intended to do might seem despicable, but in her eyes, achieving greatness required ignoring small matters.
The Northern Court Royal City—somewhere she had left behind centuries ago, a place she thought she’d never return to—was where she would head today.
This was the place that held her worst memories. Even breathing its familiar air filled her with disgust.
She didn’t want to see Beiting Xue.
This child, who had grown up under such circumstances, had become so powerful that he now posed a tremendous problem for her. It was something she had never anticipated.
She had made a mistake once already. Beiting Chun had foolishly saved him, leaving her no choice but to handle things herself.
Bai Qingyin planned to end Beiting Xue’s life quickly and efficiently, ideally using him to eliminate a few more obstacles before his death.
But it was clear that she, as his mother, would no longer be able to manipulate him.
It had to be Long Xiang.
She needed to capture her.
