The ponytailed disciple looked at Ning Mingmei. Initially, he just wanted to size up the unfamiliar cultivator. But for some reason, with just one glance, he quickly lowered his head.

Both of the disciples were in the mid-to-late Golden Core stage. The cultivation world had plenty of beauties. Even if Ning Mingmei was an exceptionally outstanding one, his looks alone shouldn’t have been enough to make someone react like that.

But then again, even mid-to-late Golden Core talisman cultivators frequently made mistakes in drawing talismans. That was perfectly reasonable. If it was the modern era, even Tribulation Transcendence talisman cultivators would still be writing bugs every day.

What truly unsettled the ponytailed disciple was Ning Mingmei’s unique aura. It was not like flowers and not like streams, but like the dark side of the moon, with symbols faintly glowing in the shadows.

The ponytailed disciple said, “Alright, if I win, you have to give me the artifact on your face.”

Young disciples were certainly bold, daring to make such a request of an unfamiliar cultivator. But it also indirectly proved that his status in the Ice Quenching Pavilion was quite high; at least a disciple of a powerful figure.

Qi Miancheng frowned and said, “How about this, if you win, I’ll give you this sword?”

After all, he had another one. Qi Miancheng’s stock of three swords was once again reduced.

But Ning Mingmei said, “Alright. What you want is just as I expected. If you win, I’ll give this to you.”

He pushed the side of his glasses with his index finger.

Sure enough, no programmer could resist the temptation of framed glasses.

The ponytailed disciple was overjoyed, his cheeks even turning red. The topknot disciple kicked his calf and whispered, “Do you even know who this person is before making a bet?”

The ponytailed disciple: “No, but he should be a good person.”

The topknot disciple: …

“But if I win…” Ning Mingmei crossed his arms and said.

The ponytailed disciple clearly loved the glasses and was afraid Ning Mingmei wouldn’t agree to the trade. “Then I can give you twenty talismans… no, fifty!”

Despite the ponytailed disciple’s strong sense of being an outsourced worker, Ning Mingmei still said, “No need to bet for talismans. If you two have time, you’re welcome to visit my sect. Don’t worry, it’s a registered and reputable sect in the cultivation world.”

The ponytailed disciple: “Alright!”

To him, it felt like double the fortune. If he won, he would get that cultivator’s artifact. If he lost, the cultivator’s words hinted at admiration.

For the immortal to invite him to visit his sect, wasn’t that recognition? It was a huge opportunity!

The two disciples, full of energy, led the way ahead, while Ning Mingmei chatted with the system in the back.

The system said, [You’ve changed, Ning Mingmei. You’re turning down fifty free talismans?]

Ning Mingmei replied lazily, [Do you think they’ll only be drawing a mere fifty talismans after an exchange program with the Supreme Clarity Sect? A day has twelve hours, you know.]

The system: …

‘Junior Brother.’

The voice that came through a secret transmission belonged to Sect Master Qi.

Qi Miancheng said, ‘Junior Brother, I have plenty of swords. When we return, I can always buy a few more. But there’s only one artifact on your face.’

Ning Mingmei glanced at the towering mountain ranges and crossed his arms. ‘I’ll win.’

Navigating a complex, vertically layered mountainous region had always been a challenge. If two mere Golden Core disciples from the Ice Quenching Pavilion could solve a research topic that could generate hundreds of academic papers just by tweaking parameters, then Ning Mingmei would be truly convinced of his loss.

Besides, they hadn’t mentioned anything about route planning or speed decisions during the journey.

How were they determining their path? At what speed? How would they navigate obstacles? Were they just making impromptu decisions to detour around them?

Ning Mingmei scoffed, ’Talisman cultivators who only know how to delete errors instead of using annotations want to beat me?’

As everyone knows, modern research always ends up relying on machine learning. Ning Mingmei was no exception.

Qi Miancheng stood behind him, gazing at the back of his snow-white neck. After a pause, he said, ‘As long as Junior Brother enjoys it, that’s what matters.’

Ning Mingmei: ’Mm. But I didn’t expect Senior Brother to be willing to trade his sword for my glasses.”

His words carried a deeper meaning.

Qi Miancheng said, ’If Junior Brother likes, I can order two more swords when I replenish my stock. Have you realized the importance of carrying three swords when traveling? One for combat, one for transportation, and one… to pawn off or use as a token in situations like this.’

“Ah, why is there a big boulder ahead? The talisman didn’t mention it?”

Sure enough, the two talisman cultivators had encountered a problem. They circled around but in the end, had no choice but to take a detour. One of them said, “No problem, according to the talisman, there’s a tunnel nearby. We can take that shortcut.”

Just as expected, they soon found a tunnel in the mountains. The four people and one tree entered.

Then.

They hit a dead end.

The ponytailed talisman cultivator: “Why wasn’t this updated on the talisman?!”

The topknot talisman cultivator crouched down and touched the dirt. “Looks like it collapsed a few days ago. Maybe a landslide.”

…Oops. That was probably caused by Ning Mingmei and the Demon Lord Jiang Duo’s fight.

Ning Mingmei said, ’See? Just as I thought.’

Moreover, the crude, early-stage automatic navigation talisman hadn’t even accounted for the real nightmare scenarios like reckless pedestrians and unpredictable electric scooters darting into the path.

With no choice, they had to turn back.

As Ning Mingmei turned around, he saw Qi Miancheng standing behind him. Qi Miancheng slightly shifted to the side and made a ‘please, after you’ gesture.

Ning Mingmei naturally walked ahead. Along the way, he suddenly said, ’Senior Brother.’

’Hm?’

Ning Mingmei: ’Just now, you said the third sword’s use, one is for pawning and the other is for what?’

Qi Miancheng replied, ’The second use is to place it under my left foot, allowing for dual-foot control while flying on swords. This increases the agility of a sword cultivator, enabling more aerial maneuvers. While controlling two flying swords for movement, I can still use the third sword to fight enemies.’

…So, he’s not satisfied with single-board surfing and now wants to try dual-board flying?

Qi Miancheng: ’Junior Brother, you should really give it a try.’

Ning Mingmei asked, ’Who owns the biggest sword-making workshop in the cultivation realm?’

Qi Miancheng said, ’While major sects have their own artifact-forging departments, they mostly focus on modifications or small-scale production. The artifact business in the cultivation realm is largely controlled by noble families. The Supreme Clarity Sect often orders immortal swords from the largest sword workshop in the cultivation realm.’

Ning Mingmei: ’So, who owns the supplier that provides the Supreme Clarity Sect with swords?’

Qi Miancheng: ’The Qi family.’

He said that with a calm and composed expression.

…Alright then. No wonder he has so many swords.

Ning Mingmei had only one response: ’Then thank you, Senior Brother. Get me a few more.’

For the next few days, Ning Mingmei and Qi Miancheng followed the two talisman cultivators, winding through endless detours. Along the way, they encountered numerous unexpected obstacles and had to take alternate routes repeatedly.

From sudden incidents to changes in the terrain, they experienced every possible complication.

At last, the talisman cultivators let out a sigh of relief. They pushed aside the foliage and saw a small village ahead.

It was the village where the orphanage was located.

The ponytailed talisman cultivator was so moved he nearly cried. “We finally made it!!”

Ning Mingmei asked, “How long did it take us?”

E/N: The update will change to once a week every Sunday. Got busy. I also have to dismiss all the formats I’ve added to this translation, like italics and bold, since they took a lot of time and I’m trying to standardize my projects.
