Qin Mohuai had skipped his meds for two straight days. Thinking he was stable, he didn’t realize that the darkness climbing up between his brows was getting sharper, his temper turning stormy and unpredictable—almost to the point of coughing blood from sheer anger because of her.

In her eyes, was he really someone she could block at will?

Would she block Liang Min so casually?

Before he could call Xia Yuan, his phone rang first—it was Pei Jinchen.

Young Master Pei’s voice was lazy, mocking with a light drawl:
“Took a few punches and now you’re lying in the hospital half-dead? I got a good look at Qin Jingye at the last chamber of commerce meeting ‘deep feelings don’t last long,’ you know. He looks strong on the outside but hollow within, already half a foot in the grave.”

“You, at least, have fought the world boxing champ before. And you lost to him? Tsk tsk, must be all that nightly debauchery—your little demoness drained you dry. Honestly, I think Xia Yuan must be a fox spirit. Believe me, no normal human woman would ever like a control freak psycho like you!”

The more he talked, the sourer he sounded.

Qin Mohuai’s voice was icy, dipped in a cold pond, impatient to the extreme:
“Cut the crap. Get over here and help me with something.”

“?” Pei Jinchen was baffled. “Did you even hear what I just said?”

Qin Mohuai hung up.

Then he called in Qin Wu, his personal bodyguard. His tone carried an unspoken authority, “What happened at the house today? Why didn’t anyone tell me?”

Qin Wu didn’t dare defend himself. He reported truthfully, “Miss Xia went back to her family this afternoon. She forbade Qin Qi from disclosing her whereabouts—we only found out just now.”

Qin Mohuai gave a cold snort, eyes sharp as blades.
“She forbids you from talking, so you really keep quiet? Who exactly is your master?”

Qin Wu quickly explained, “Miss Xia said if Qin Qi disobeyed her, she’d complain to you—saying Qin Qi kissed her.”

Anyone with power tended to have a suspicious streak, not to mention Qin Mohuai, who was vengeful and guarded Xia Yuan like the apple of his eye. Whether Xia Yuan was telling the truth or not, Qin Qi would be doomed either way.

Qin Mohuai’s brows, always cold and arrogant, lowered in thought. A trace of amusement flickered in his eyes, his fury easing slightly.

“If she forbade Qin Qi from speaking, how did you know?”

Qin Wu replied, “I think Miss Xia didn’t want to make things difficult for Qin Qi, so she lifted the ban herself.”

Qin Mohuai’s expression darkened again.

Qin Wu: “…”

Boss, do you have to be jealous about everything?

Not long after, Pei Jinchen arrived at the hospital in his Lamborghini.

He wore sunglasses on the bridge of his nose, his build sharp and superior, clad in a flashy pink designer suit—like a fox spirit who hadn’t quite mastered his disguise, equal parts seductive and ostentatious.

Qin Mohuai, holding back the pain in his abdomen, was fastening the buttons of his shirt. He glanced at the flamboyant Pei Jinchen and said casually, “Drive me to Jinqiu Community. We’re going to pick up Xia Yuan.”

Pei Jinchen yanked off his sunglasses, face twisted. “I’m not your chauffeur! You’re going to fetch your wife, not mine. Why the hell drag me into this?”

Qin Mohuai: “I need someone to cover for me. Stop whining. You sell cars—if you don’t drive, what else are you good for?”

Sell cars?

Pei Jinchen was about ready to explode.

Wait a second… Xia Yuan went back to her parents’ house? Qin Mohuai’s wife ran away?

Oh, this was rich.

The lights in the living room were still on. Liang Min and Xia Yi were speaking in low voices.

Suddenly, they heard a knock at the door. Through the peephole, they saw Qin Mohuai standing outside with a flashy-looking man.

Liang Min hesitated for a few seconds, then opened the door.

Break up cleanly, don’t burn bridges— even if Yuanyuan no longer followed President Qin, they absolutely couldn’t afford to offend him.

Those towering figures with power in their grasp could crush them with the flick of a finger. Liang Min had already experienced it once, and the lingering fear still haunted her.

“Uncle, Auntie, good evening. Sorry to disturb your rest,” Qin Mohuai greeted politely, his attitude impeccable.

Pei Jinchén glanced at him in surprise. So this was what it meant for one thing to overcome another?

The high and mighty crown prince of the Qin family, bowing low for love, humbling himself into the dust.

“Hello, Uncle, Auntie. I’m Qin Mohuai’s friend, Pei Jinchén.”

Liang Min, a bit reserved, said, “Please sit, have a seat and talk.”

Xia Yi went to the cabinet and carefully picked out the cheapest barley tea to brew for them.

Pei Jinchén arched a brow. “This tea… has quite a unique taste.”

Young Master Pei, born into nobility, lived with the highest standards. Naturally, he couldn’t even recognize cheap barley tea.

Qin Mohuai lowered his eyes, staring quietly at the tea. Last time he’d come, it had been tribute-grade golden melon tea.

But he didn’t dwell on the difference. Before Liang Min could speak, Qin Mohuai handed them a stack of documents.

Liang Min blinked. “What’s this?”

Qin Mohuai: “My psychological evaluation.”

Liang Min’s gaze grew heavy. “That’s your privacy. We can’t look at it. Please, take it back.”

If they saw his private matters, things would only get messier.

Pei Jinchén’s lips curved, half-smile, half-mockery. “Auntie, you might not know. Mohuai lost both his parents at a very young age. He’s been starved of love all his life.”

Qin Mohuai sipped the barley tea, his long lashes casting shadows over eyes that usually brimmed with arrogance and defiance. Under Pei Jinchén’s words, he really did look somewhat pitiful.

Pei Jinchén continued, “Because he lacks love, if someone gives him even the tiniest bit of affection, he’ll repay it tenfold. I admit, he’s not worthy of Xia Yuan.”

At that, Qin Mohuai lifted his eyes and shot him a look—seriously? Asking for a beating?

“But,” Pei Jinchén went on, “he will work hard to change, to become a man worthy of Xia Yuan. Why don’t you take a look at his records, and then decide whether to let your daughter be with him?”

Liang Min fell silent. She had never once said she wanted to break them apart, but Qin Mohuai had already guessed her thoughts, and even came fully prepared with countermeasures.

Deeply shrewd, calculating to the bone. How could Yuanyuan ever win against Qin Mohuai? No wonder she was eaten up by him so thoroughly.

Just then, Xia Yuan stepped out from her room. The instant Qin Mohuai saw her, he couldn’t help but rise to his feet, his gaze practically glued to her.

Xia Yuan didn’t want her parents to see his diagnosis, and handed the file back untouched.

This was Qin Mohuai at his most vulnerable. If he was willing to show it now, what if, one day in the future, he regretted it and decided to hold them accountable? Would her parents even survive that storm?

“You don’t need to use this kind of method to please my parents. This is between the two of us.” After some rest, Xia Yuan’s spirit looked better. Her snow-bright eyes met his straight on, and her soft hand gently wrapped around a few of his fingers. “Go back to Shenghai Manor and get some rest. It’s late. We’ll talk tomorrow.”

Her touch sent a tingling heat coursing through his skin, numbing and intoxicating. Qin Mohuai, like a succubus dazed by his wife’s spell, obediently let her lead him away.

Pei Jinchén was gloating. He envied love that was mutual and equal, not this kind where the man was utterly dominated. Heroes losing their edge—he looked down on Qin Mohuai for it.

Outside, the rain hadn’t stopped. Xia Yuan’s custom nude-pink leather shoes were just as delicate as she was—touch a drop of water and they’d be ruined.

A few droplets splashed onto her leg. She frowned slightly, staring blankly at her own skin until Qin Mohuai bent down, pinching the cuff of his pristine white shirt to carefully wipe the rain off her calf.

Pei Jinchén clicked his tongue. Was he serving her like a spoiled little princess?

Dark night. Curtains of rain. The Lamborghini’s headlights glowed bright in the run-down old neighborhood. In the shadows, the cold, aristocratic man held Xia Yuan by the waist, like a vampire lord born of the night, entwining himself with his sweet human girl.

“Can I stay over at your place tonight?”
