When Xia Yuan heard the name Ouyang Jing, her mind went blank for a second.

Ouyang Jing was the heroine of “The Madman Male Lead Fell in Love With Me.” She wanted it all—the obsessive, dangerous Qin Mohuai, and the gentle, jade-like Gu Xiuze. She wanted to have the best of both worlds, three people living happily ever after… but because of her greed, the characters and the entire plot collapsed.

Qin Mohuai and Ouyang Jing’s first meeting was at a political–business gathering. At that banquet, the pot-bellied oil tycoon, Boss Huang, set his eyes on a young waitress who had just turned eighteen. He ordered her to pour wine and serve him dishes, using the chance to touch her inappropriately.

Everyone present noticed, but while their lips were busy discussing multi-million-dollar deals, who would bother about the life and dignity of a mere waitress?

But Ouyang Jing cared. She stepped in, preventing Boss Huang from bullying the girl. Her bold, straightforward nature immediately caught Qin Mohuai’s attention.

When Xia Yuan transmigrated into this world, the male and female leads hadn’t met yet. That’s why she was able to snatch Qin Mohuai first.

Ever since she confirmed her relationship with him, Qin Mohuai rarely attended such gatherings. Whenever he came home late, he would take the initiative to call her and report his whereabouts.

As long as the female lead wasn’t present at those parties, Xia Yuan didn’t care even if Qin Mohuai returned with lipstick stains on his shirt. After all, men didn’t like overly jealous women. If she interrogated him about who he was fooling around with, his “affection points” might drop.

But Xia Yuan’s carefree attitude only provoked Qin Mohuai’s intense dissatisfaction. At first, he thought she was secretly jealous in her heart. Once, at a gathering, he even deliberately had his best buddy put on lipstick, then pressed the tall, muscular man against him and smeared his own shirt collar with lip marks.

When he got home, Xia Yuan merely kissed his cheek, ignored the bright lipstick mark, and looked at him with sparkling eyes before lying down sweetly on the bed—completely unconcerned. That’s when Qin Mohuai truly lost control.

Though the two had already adapted well to each other, that night Qin Mohuai still covered Xia Yuan’s mouth. No matter how she struggled or begged, he didn’t soften in the slightest. He forced her to inhale the sharp scent of the black vial, gripping her slender waist as he ravaged her like a madman.

It was his punishment for her.

Afterward, when he carried her to the bath, Xia Yuan’s body was covered in marks from his lips and teeth. She closed her eyes, refusing to look at him. For someone who treated his wife as his lifeline, that rejection was a fatal blow.

That was also the night Xia Yuan discovered that Qin Mohuai… could cry. His scarlet, crazed eyes turned wet, hiding a sickly possessiveness beneath. He kissed her face again and again, whispering hoarse apologies mixed with desperate breaths at her ear—like a succubus who would die without his wife.

Having lost her parents young, Xia Yuan had grown up with her grandmother, developing a gentle and patient disposition. Seeing Qin Mohuai’s tears, no matter how furious she had been, her heart softened. She even comforted him instead.

But later, whenever Qin Mohuai lost control and cried again—though Xia Yuan’s soft heart couldn’t withstand his tearful assaults—she swore she would never comfort him again!

The novel described Qin Mohuai as a man who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals. If he truly fell for the female lead, Xia Yuan firmly believed he had the power to deal with her cleanly—leaving her either vanished without a trace, or a corpse no one could ever find.

The system spoke up: “Don’t be afraid, I’m covering you! Be bold!”

Xia Yuan asked coldly: “You can stop Qin Mohuai from doing evil?”

The system hesitated. “…At least for one year, I can guarantee you won’t end up dead in the streets.”

Xia Yuan: “Wow. So amazing.”

She promised her younger brother Xia Yuze that she would return to Shenghai Manor next week.

Shenghai Manor was Qin Mohuai’s private residence after he reached adulthood. The first time Xia Yuan went there, the old butler had told her: “You are the first woman the young master has ever brought home!”

But if this separation continued, the butler might very well end up reciting different lines: “You are the second woman the young master has ever brought home!”

Carrying a trench coat, Xia Yuan hopped into Xia Yuze’s nanny car and left Yunxiang Villa.

“Someone’s tailing us,” her manager said calmly. “Probably paparazzi.”

Xia Yuze frowned. He had never exposed his family in front of cameras—and he never would.

“Lose the paparazzi and find a discreet spot for my sister to get out of the car.”

He stood tall at one meter eighty, jawline sharp and defined. Yet, the youthful softness in his face still carried that hint of puppy-like charm. This perfect mix of wolfish sharpness and boyish innocence had already earned him ten million fans in just two years since his debut.

Xia Yuan reached out and ruffled her younger brother’s soft curls. The manager had just opened his mouth to say, “Don’t touch Little Ze, our superstar spent two hours on that hairstyle!”—but then swallowed the words. After all, standing behind Xia Yuan was a man so powerful, he could buy out the entire media company with just the crook of a finger.

After getting out of the car, Xia Yuan strolled aimlessly through winding alleys in search of inspiration. Back at Shenghai Manor, she had a piano to play, lyrics to hum along to, and a studio equipped with top-tier recording gear. But ever since she moved into the villa, none of that was available.

Qin Mohuai was meticulous to the point of paranoia, yet stingy when it came to this. Having her equipment delivered was no more than a single command for him—but he never uttered a word.

Passing by a lavishly decorated vintage shop, Xia Yuan’s gaze was immediately caught by a sleek black tail ring displayed in the window. Instantly, her mind conjured the image of Qin Mohuai wearing it—domineering, arrogant, and regal. It suited him perfectly.

“How much for that black tail ring?” she asked.

The shopkeeper, silk scarf tied elegantly around her neck, smiled. “Madam truly has an eye for treasure. That dragon-engraved black tail ring is priced at six hundred thousand.”

Every month, Qin Mohuai deposited a hundred thousand in pocket money into Xia Yuan’s account. If she wanted something pricier, there was a stack of unlimited black cards tucked in her bedside drawer.

But Xia Yuan only brought those black cards when going out with Qin Mohuai. Most of the time, she preferred to spend from her own account. To her, it made little difference.

She had never been a materialistic woman. Back when she caught her ex cheating, that man—pathetic and cornered—had tried to buy her silence with a promise of twenty million.

What she had wanted to ask him was: After all these years of pushing forward together, of fighting side by side—what do I mean to you?

But in the end, she didn’t ask. For her, loyalty and shared memories weighed more than money. Sadly, her ex had already drowned himself in the glitz and vanity of the entertainment world.

Finding a soul mate who fits you perfectly—that is every human’s lifelong pursuit.

Unfortunately, she hadn’t found hers yet.

The weather in Xiangzhou was erratic, shifting faster than Qin Mohuai’s temper. Just as Xia Yuan was about to leave the vintage shop, rain poured down in sheets.

She lingered inside until the storm weakened, then finally stepped out.

—

The villa Xia Yuan lived in was four stories tall, one apartment per floor.

At the door, she patted the rain from her clothes, stomped the mud and leaves off her shoes, then unlocked the fingerprint scanner. Once upon a time, she would’ve picked up the soggy leaves without a second thought—but months of Qin Mohuai’s pampering had spoiled her, and somewhere along the line, she had picked up his quirks of cleanliness too.

The sky outside was still gray, the interior dim. Just as Xia Yuan reached to flick on the lights, someone seized both her wrists.

Cold, fevered kisses rained down her face and collarbone.

“Ah—get off me!”

Her face blanched with fear. Who was touching her? Who broke in?

Then came a low, hoarse breath in her ear.

Wait.

It was Qin Mohuai.

The moment he hadn’t found her inside the house, rage had consumed him, his body trembling with fury. Yet now, with her caught in his arms, laughter spilled from him instead—dark, unhinged, eyes burning red as he locked onto her.

He should never have agreed to let her move out. He should never have dismissed the bodyguards watching her.

The man who balanced on the edge of madness, starving for security, broke down in tears as he clung to her.

“Yuan Yuan… I’ll lock you away if I have to.”
