- Chapter 5 - Do I Look Poor?
Ruan Meng was unfazed by the shop assistant’s slander. After all, she had indeed thought of doing that, only to suddenly remember that this was a society governed by law.
It seemed that the legendary free cafeteria couldn’t accommodate two little ones.
Although Ruan Meng didn’t care, the little bundle of dynamite did explode.
As someone who was fiercely protective of her brother, Le Le quickly pulled An An behind her and said righteously, “Auntie, you are lying! It was obviously you who wanted to bully us first, and now you’re trying to play the victim!”
“You’re the one lying. When did I bully you?” The assistant’s face twisted in anger, but adults generally believed children more, so both the security guard and Manager Zhang signaled for her to be quiet.
“Hmph!” Seeing the assistant’s weak fighting spirit, Le Le scoffed and swaggered back to An An’s side.
Seeing this, Manager Zhang quickly signaled the security guard to disperse the onlookers and stepped forward to Ruan Meng.
“Hello, ma’am. Regardless of what happened, we failed to provide you with good service. I would like to apologize on behalf of the store for you and the two children.”
Manager Zhang’s attitude improved Le Le’s expression a lot. Even timid An An showed a shy smile, but Ruan Meng remained unchanged.
She continued to stare at the unconvinced female shop assistant with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, leaving Manager Zhang and the remaining onlookers confused.
Just as the tense silence reached its peak and made everyone feel inexplicably nervous, Ruan Meng, who was being stared at by many pairs of eyes, suddenly moved.
She casually picked up a tissue from the counter and wiped her delicate hands. Then in full view of everyone, she slowly raised her arms and dropped them heavily.
Smack—
A crisp sound of slap echoed in everyone’s hearts.
“Brother, don’t look! It’s too bloody!” Ruan Le Le was the first to react. She covered Ruan An An’s eyes with her hands.
The innocent words of a child often draw laughter. Many onlookers couldn’t help but laugh, which inadvertently shifted the focus away from Ruan Meng.
However, the shop assistant recovered from her shock. She screamed again and lunged at Ruan Meng. Fortunately, Manager Zhang was quick to intervene.
“Enough! How long are you going to make a scene?”
“Manager! It’s this woman who hit me first! How can you be biased? Are you just looking at her?”
The female assistant was about to ask if Manager Zhang favored Ruan Meng because she was beautiful, but was cut off by other employees who rushed in to silence her after hearing the news.
Manager Zhang frowned deeply at her words. He didn’t want the situation to escalate further. He ignored the brainless employee and turned back to Ruan Meng, but she lifted her arms again.
“This lady, please…” show mercy.
Thinking Ruan Meng was about to strike again, Manager Zhang quickly tried to stop her but saw that Ruan Meng was merely wiping her right hand which she used to hit someone.
Once the feeling of ‘dirtiness’ faded from her mind, Ruan Meng glared at the shop assistant with a murderous intent.
“You said I hit you, right? If I don’t hit you, wouldn’t that be a loss for me?”
As the crowd marveled at Ruan Meng’s arrogance, the female assistant who seemed to have gone mad surprisingly fell silent.
Fearing the situation would escalate, Manager Zhang quickly had the assistant escorted away and proposed to waive Ruan Meng’s bill as compensation.
“What? Do I look poor?” Ruan Meng casually asked, although she was wealthier than she herself realized.
Before Manager Zhang could respond, the fearless Le Le nodded eagerly. “Yes!”
