- Chapter 15 - She Was Playing Her
The tear-filled voice drifted into Cen Qianyi’s ears with the warmth rising in the room, and the heat spreading across her back blossomed beneath the trembling whisper, bringing a soft blush to her pale skin.
Her chin rested against the plush mat, and as her neck shifted slightly, the butterfly bones on her back emerged subtly, resembling wings struggling to break free but held down firmly.
Cen Qianyi bit the inside of her cheek. A sharp sting followed, anchoring her against the growing heat in her body.
She had not expected it, but this time she had guessed right.
This woman really was playing with her.
He Shu’s hands trembled badly. She truly had no desire to “play.”
If she had a choice, she would much rather be the one lying down and let Cen Qianyi play with her instead.
So what if it burned a little? She had tested the temperature herself. She could handle it.
It was still better than this… Every time a drop of wax fell and made Cen Qianyi flinch, it felt as if it had landed straight on her heart instead.
Her heart jumped with each burn, the sting reaching her scalp and sending chills down her spine.
It was unbearable.
And the worst part was the script said the wax had to cover nearly all of Cen Qianyi’s back. “Nearly” meant almost completely.
He Shu could not tell whether she should be thankful that Cen Qianyi had a slender figure and a narrow back. With trembling hands, she kept going, eager to finish the task as quickly as possible.
She was so focused she did not even notice that the smoke rising from the burning candles behind her had started to gather and faintly formed the shape of a “Killing Intent Blade.”
If she had seen it, her hands might have trembled even more.
He Shu was entirely concentrated, carefully looking for the few untouched areas on Cen Qianyi’s back, trying to find the right angle to complete the “nearly covered” requirement.
“System, look! Her whole back is practically covered. Isn’t that close enough to ‘nearly’? There’s no space left!”
She protested in her mind, but that idiotic system had vanished again as if playing dead.
“Stupid system, come out already! Don’t pretend to be dead!”
“Why haven’t you passed me yet? Isn’t this enough?”
She had already dripped wax on all four corners and even the center of Cen Qianyi’s back.
In her frustration, a drop of hot wax accidentally fell on the raised butterfly bone. The person lying below let out a muffled groan. He Shu’s tears fell instantly.
She was going to die.
Panicking, she quickly peeled off the wax that had already solidified, but she was too late. The delicate skin over the bone was burned bright red.
An apology almost slipped from her lips.
She felt like she might drop to her knees any second. At that very moment, the countdown for her next line appeared.
“Baby, does it feel good? Do you want more?”
Even more tears spilled. If only she had said that line earlier. Saying it now, with everything going on, made it feel even more twisted.
Her crying grew heavier, and a few tears fell into the burning candles. A loud crackle erupted as the wax popped. The rising smoke stung her eyes. She blinked rapidly, moving some of the candles aside. In her shaking, a pool of wax spilled out at once.
When He Shu opened her eyes, she saw the wax forming blooming roses across Cen Qianyi’s pale back.
A muffled groan escaped, but it was drowned out by the system’s chime in her mind.
Finally, this part was complete.
Without hesitation, He Shu blew out the candle in her hand. A trail of bluish smoke rose quickly, solidifying into an “Air Blade.”
But He Shu had already closed her eyes and lowered the candle. She did not see it.
After wiping her tears, she opened her eyes and looked at the woman lying beneath her.
Cen Qianyi had been quiet the entire time.
Even with her mouth gagged, she could have made a sound if she wanted to, yet she stayed silent.
He Shu recalled something she had once seen online. It said naughty children making a fuss wasn’t scary. What was scary was when they suddenly went quiet. That always meant trouble.
Cen Qianyi wasn’t a naughty child. She was a hundred times more terrifying than one. Her destructive power was on a completely different level.
She was this quiet now, and He Shu could only think of one explanation. She was plotting how to kill her.
She guessed correctly.
Cen Qianyi was indeed thinking about it. She was deciding how to repay He Shu for this… special experience.
Heat spread inside her chest. It was a strange feeling. Even with a sensory enhancer still lingering in her body, Cen Qianyi could tell the wax did not actually hurt that much.
This person had no real intention of harming her.
She was playing with her.
If she had been an ordinary person, she would have felt terrified during this game. The anticipation of the burn, the sharp sting, and then the relief of realizing it was bearable would have sent her emotions on a roller coaster.
From tension to release, fear to relief. That was why she asked her, “Does it feel good? Exciting?”
She truly knew how to play.
But unfortunately, Cen Qianyi did not find it fun.
Also, of the people who had dared play with her… none were still alive.
Correction. Now there was one.
Cen Qianyi slowly curled her fingers into fists. Her fingertips grazed over her nails. How should she punish someone who dared to play with her?
She could not let her die so easily.
She remembered a certain drug being developed in a lab. It could melt the bones in the hands. There was also…
Suddenly, warmth touched her neck. Cen Qianyi’s thoughts came to a halt.
He Shu had no idea what she was thinking. But there was still something she had to do.
She brushed aside the strands of hair on the back of Cen Qianyi’s neck. Then she leaned in and gently kissed the curve of that elegant, arched neck.
“Baby, you really are… stunning.”
She meant every word.
She had just been observing Cen Qianyi. And it was impossible not to notice how breathtaking she looked right now.
The lines of her back were truly beautiful. Smooth curves, slender but not bony. Her pale skin looked like snow under a filter.
And on that snowfield, fierce red roses had bloomed.
It was a beauty that blended all four seasons. A beauty that took your breath away.
The more beautiful something was, the more dangerous it became.
As soon as she said it, He Shu’s tears fell uncontrollably. They landed on that equally beautiful, untouched neck.
Compared to the hot wax, her tears were cool. They slid down the pale pink skin, washing away the heat left behind.
Behind her, the smoky trace of the “Killing Intent Blade” faded as the warmth in the room slowly dissipated.
He Shu wiped her tears, stood up, took out her phone, and quickly snapped a photo of the “beautiful scene.”
There was only one photo in her gallery.
She knew this had been the original host’s habit.
New toy. New record.
This was just the first one. She remembered that when the original host died, Cen Qianyi had been holding her phone.
Now she understood. She had probably been looking at these pictures.
Each one was proof of her crimes.
He Shu wanted to cry again.
After taking the photo, she squatted down again to wrap up the scene.
Her fingers gently traced the neck, then moved past the rose-like wax to the stunning curve of the waist nearby.
“Baby, savor this feeling. You’ll fall in love with it.”
She propped herself up on one knee and kissed the dimple at the waist’s center.
“You were so well-behaved tonight. Your master has a reward for you. Wait for me.”
As soon as she finished the last line, she bolted.
Goosebumps everywhere. It was so perverse. She covered her mouth and ran straight for the bedroom.
The next scene in the plot was for her to shower, and she needed to clean her mouth immediately. She had said way too many twisted things tonight.
The heat on Cen Qianyi’s back had started to fade. But after that hand’s touch, it flared back to life.
Her lower back grew hot again.
She heard the rush of footsteps. Her ears twitched slightly, and she heard the sound of a door opening. The footsteps grew distant.
Cen Qianyi nudged her blindfold aside just in time to see the woman’s figure disappearing into the bedroom.
Running?
She stared at the closed door.
Then she sat up, pulled off the eye mask, and reached for her back. She picked off a chunk of hardened wax. It was red.
She held it in her palm and glanced at the red candle beside her. It had gone out, but a thin trail of smoke still lingered. That must have been the one she had used.
Her eyes moved to the adjacent tool room, then to the bedroom at the far end.
Why had she run away?
What had she said before leaving? A reward?
She closed her hand, and the wax in her palm crumbled, the fragments falling through her fingers.
Her eyes drifted to the candles beside the mat.
They had all been lit, but some were already out.
Thinking back to the way the woman had gasped earlier, what had she been doing?
One candle would have been enough. Why light so many? Was it some sort of ritual?
Watching the flickering flames, Cen Qianyi suddenly remembered something from her past.
There had only been one time in her life when she had seen this many candles. She was four years old. The Charity Bureau had received a sponsorship from a wealthy businessman.
To celebrate his child’s first birthday, he had sent a cake for every child. Everyone had sung a birthday song together.
Under the warm candlelight, Cen Qianyi had watched the businessman hold his child and smile with such joy. She smiled too.
It was the first time she had ever seen a real cream cake. Until then, she had only heard about them in the director’s bedtime stories.
Before eating, the businessman told all the children to blow out the candles and make a wish. He said his wish was for his child to grow up healthy.
Cen Qianyi had wished for a family like that.
But before her wish could come true, she learned there were no gods in this world.
Actually, there was one.
It was her.
…
Lost in thought, Cen Qianyi’s ears twitched again. She heard something. After a moment’s pause, she lay back down and resumed her previous position.
He Shu had finished showering and changed her clothes. She felt a bit calmer now. The plot still wasn’t over, and she had to continue.
Back in the pet room, she was startled to find that many of the candles were still burning.
She had been too nervous earlier and had forgotten all about them.
It was dangerous. This could easily start a fire.
She hurriedly blew them out one by one. As the flames flickered out, a deeply ingrained habit kicked in. Even now, she couldn’t help but make a wish.
“Dear god, I won’t ask for much. I know Cen Qianyi is definitely going to kill me. I don’t even ask you to save me. Just let her make it quick and spare me the suffering.”
She mentally called on every god she could think of. Then, as she blew out the last candle, she thought of her angelic dog.
“Qianqian, please protect your master.”
With the candles out, He Shu returned to Cen Qianyi’s side. Seeing her lying so still, she suddenly thought of those people who played dead on the battlefield, waiting to ambush when their enemy relaxed.
She hesitated.
Once she confirmed there was no killing intent, she dared to move closer.
It was strange. After all that, there was still no killing intent.
But then again, it made sense. This was the number one assassin.
Of course she had professionalism. She would not kill just because she was angry.
She would be calm and calculating. He Shu was still useful, so she would wait. Once she wasn’t, then she would be dealt with.
He Shu breathed a little easier. She squatted down and began clearing the wax from Cen Qianyi’s back.
“Baby, how was it? Fun, wasn’t it?”
She wanted to cry. She had picked the least painful candle, yet Cen Qianyi’s back was still red all over.
Her method of death was probably going to get worse.
And it still wasn’t over. The plot had another scene. A location change.
He Shu unlocked the handcuffs and metal chain and carefully picked her up.
“Baby, you were so good tonight. Your reward is getting to sleep with your master.”
