Now, Lu Cheng had some good news and some bad news.

The good news? He could finally be sure—he wasn’t just being dragged into trouble for no reason.

The bad news? His place in the family hierarchy was teetering on the edge.

He could already picture the future family lineup: grandchildren with Su Qingwu (tied for first place), He Xueting, Kara (if they adopted her), Lu Zhiguo, and himself, Lu Cheng.

Sigh… being a man was hard!

In the Lu household, with the eldest and youngest co-heads of the family, they didn’t even get to decide whether the soy milk would be sweet or salty. Humbling, indeed.

Su Qingwu nibbled on her garlic ribs, her fair, delicate face serene and content.

Lu Cheng sat beside her, guarding his empty bowl, watching her eat. The more he stared, the hungrier he got.

This woman was ruthless. I brought her food out of kindness, and she wouldn’t even let me have a bite.

Serves her right.

Just as Lu Cheng muttered angrily in his mind, a few orchid crab legs appeared in his bowl.

The shiny, oil-slicked crab shells glistened with soup, looking utterly delicious.

Lu Cheng blinked in surprise, glancing at Su Qingwu.

“I don’t like crab legs. You eat them.”

Her eyes were clear and gentle, her voice soft.

Truth be told, compared to other parts of the crab, Su Qingwu actually preferred the legs—if the crab was cooked well, of course.

He Xueting’s culinary skills left no room for complaint.

Lu Cheng looked at the crab legs in his bowl and frowned.

“I don’t like crab legs either. There’s too little meat, and the bones make them annoying to eat. I want the crab body—that chunk has plenty of meat!”

He pointed to a large section of orchid crab in the container.

Su Qingwu raised a sharp, icy gaze, staring straight at Lu Cheng as if he were a criminal.

Killer aura…

Lu Cheng lowered his head, grabbed a crab leg, and started gnawing on it.

“You said you liked it, didn’t you? Eat the rest too.”

Su Qingwu said coldly.

Reluctantly, Lu Cheng piled the remaining legs into his bowl.

Two officers returning from the cafeteria witnessed this and shook their heads in amusement.

With Su Qingwu’s dominant personality, Lu Cheng’s future life would be rough.

Yeah, Su Qingwu was beautiful—but she was a rose with thorns.

Thinking this way, they didn’t envy Lu Cheng at all.

Su Qingwu then ladled him a bowl of carp soup, giving him almost the whole fish.

“Finish it all. Don’t waste food.”

Lu Cheng made a sour face. “The fish is full of bones. I don’t want it.”

“If you don’t eat it, I’ll tell Aunt He that you don’t like her fish.”

“I’ll eat it.”

Su Qingwu nodded in satisfaction.

Just then, Xiao Zheng and Xiao Hu returned from the cafeteria, shaking their heads and clicking their tongues.

Lu Cheng frowned. “Who are you two scolding?”

Xiao Zheng and Xiao Hu laughed.

Xiao Zheng: “Who are we scolding? We’re praising you!”

Xiao Hu: “Look at you, Lu Ge. You solve everything Su Team doesn’t eat—this is what they call a warm-hearted guy.”

Lu Cheng felt they were speaking even dirtier now. “Warm-hearted guy my ass!”

During the extended holiday, Lu Cheng had delivered meals to Su Qingwu four times.

He told He Xueting: might as well crown me “Delivery King.”

He Xueting rolled her eyes. “Be grateful. If Qingwu wants it, there are plenty of handsome guys who’d deliver her meals. And you’re still complaining?”

Lu Cheng: “…”

When the holiday ended, Lu Cheng returned to Sanliqiao Police Station.

The system rewards he earned from Wu Shenming had arrived—purple rank, quite generous.

Lu Cheng worked three consecutive days with no cases—no system rewards.

This was the mundane reality of police work.

That morning, Lu Cheng and Lin Wenbin were dispatched to a Sha County snack shop.

A young woman found a hair in her noodle bowl and demanded compensation. The owner offered a free meal.

She refused, asking for 5,000 yuan. Owner refused, so she called the police.

Lu Cheng and Lin Wenbin arrived. Even they wanted to arrest her—6 yuan noodles, 5,000 yuan claim?

Lin Wenbin joked: maybe she could put her thick-legged tights over her head and rob the bank two hundred meters down the street.

Worse, the girl, seeing Lu Cheng’s handsome face, beamed: “Police brother, can I add your WeChat?”

She was unstoppable.

After Lu Cheng refused twice, she finally gave up on him, still demanding compensation from the owner.

The owner had never seen such a frustrating customer. Without the store, he’d have cursed her out.

Even Lu Cheng and Lin Wenbin were speechless.

Absurd incidents, wasting police resources—but you couldn’t scold her… what if she snapped?

Lu Cheng noticed his system skill [Trace Evidence] activated. The hair glowed faint green.

He picked it up with a tissue.

Curled hair straightened; the tips were blue.

The woman had black hair, but some roots were also blue—iris blue, distinctive.

99% probability: it was her own hair.

Lin Wenbin’s eyes widened. “Holy crap! Extortion!”

Both girl and owner stared at the hair, faces changing.

The girl looked embarrassed, the owner delighted.

“Forget it, boss. Just give me the meal for free. Pretend nothing happened.”

“I… I’m leaving…”

The owner blocked her. “Leaving? Don’t even think about it!”

“Both officers are here. I’ll report you for extortion. Officer, I’ll report her!”

The girl’s face went pale. She screamed, sat on the floor, rolling in a tantrum.

Onlookers gasped.

Lin Wenbin shook his head. “Why make things so complicated?”

Lu Cheng instructed the owner to submit the surveillance footage to the station. He would issue a receipt for the case.

Evidence was solid. The girl faced up to three years imprisonment and fines.

Sweet victory.

Lu Cheng gained system rewards: [Speed +0.5]

Just 0.5… but every bit counts.

That afternoon, Lu Cheng was on school patrol and even helped a child find a lost notebook in the grass.

The kid cried his eyes out, not a word of thanks.

Lu Cheng suspected the notebook was lost on purpose.

“Go home and finish your homework. Don’t forget to turn it in tomorrow.”

The child didn’t look back, crying louder.

Returning to the station, Lu Cheng noticed all eyes on him.

Lin Wenbin rushed over, excitement written all over his face:

“Lu Ge! You’re about to make it big! Captain Qin from the Criminal Investigation Team is here, in Director Chen’s office!”

“They want to bring you to Su City for a case. They’re discussing it with Director Chen right now!”
