Swish, swish… swish, swish…

Lu Cheng carried a bucket of water, dunked a towel, and diligently wiped down the police car.

At Sanliqiao Precinct, there were only two patrol cars, and everyone treated them like treasures, keeping them spotless.

Why was Officer Lu so happy washing the car? Because the Fangjia Alley homicide case had been solved. Though he was technically assisting in the investigation, his role had been crucial.

As a result, the system rewarded him handsomely.

First: Memory Enhancement Lv1 upgraded to Lv2.

Memory Enhancement Lv2: The host’s memory speed and capacity are doubled.

Second: Attribute Point: Strength +1 (currently 20).

Finally, Flycatcher Lv2 upgraded to Lv3.

Flycatcher Lv3: When a nearby suspect appears, five flies randomly activate to track the suspect. Trigger range: 50 meters. Detection range: 500 meters. The skill color changes based on the suspect’s criminal value: Green → Blue → Purple → Orange → Gold → Red → Black.

Not bad for a homicide—rewards were solid.

But homicides didn’t happen often, even in the Criminal Investigation Unit. Lu Cheng had luck on his side this time.

By the time he finished cleaning the car, it was nearly time to get off work. As for Chen Weimin’s promise of a day off for catching a thief, Lu Cheng hadn’t cared much.

If there was nothing to do during a day off, he’d rather be on the job—earning system rewards from every case.

The Chief’s Office.

Chen Weimin sipped tea when the phone rang. It was Lv Zhengbo from Shuangqiao Precinct. Chen answered.

“Hello, Old Lv. You calling to invite me for a drink again?”

On the other end, Lv Zhengbo spat out a remark: “How thick-skinned are you! That bottle’s over five thousand yuan—my son-in-law gave it to me. Last time you drank half a bottle, it nearly killed me!”

Chen Weimin clicked his tongue. He wouldn’t push the issue; it was someone’s prized liquor, after all.

“So what’s up? You here to listen to me brag?” Chen chuckled.

Since Sanliqiao Precinct gained recognition, even rival chiefs insisted on stopping by to chat. And naturally, the topic of the rising star, Lu Cheng, came up.

“Need to borrow him?” Chen asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Oh, bad timing! The Criminal Investigation Unit already borrowed him. Can you believe it? He’s just a rookie, but the CID wouldn’t take no for an answer.”

The precinct chiefs exchanged glances. Of course the CID wasn’t stupid. If Lu Cheng didn’t have talent, they wouldn’t have requested him. Chen Weimin had no choice but to play along.

Lv Zhengbo cut straight to the point: “What’s he up to? Didn’t he crack that homicide in your precinct? Bring him to the anti-pickpocket unit tomorrow!”

Chen Weimin glanced out the window at Lu Cheng, still diligently washing the car. “Not doing anything—just cleaning the car.”

“Cleaning the car? Using those hands that catch thieves to wipe a car? That’s a waste of talent! Bring him to our anti-pickpocket unit!”

Chen froze for a moment, then raised his voice. “Wait, what did you just say?”

He quickly realized: The homicide wasn’t fully solved by him?

“Exaggerated! He helped locate the weapon and track the suspect, but this was his first real case—hardly experienced.”

Lv Zhengbo snorted. “You don’t understand him. That kid got shafted at your precinct. He’d shine at our unit!”

Chen frowned. “Don’t understand? Explain clearly.”

“The homicide, originally progressing along CID lines, had the killer caught. But then ‘that talented kid’ insisted the killer was someone else…”

Lv Zhengbo didn’t know the details, just the key point: according to Lu Cheng’s deduction, the real killer was caught.

In short: without Lu Cheng, the case might have gone in the wrong direction.

Chen Weimin froze, stunned.

Wait… the suspect caught at Dongxing Hotel wasn’t the real killer?

The true culprit was someone else?

And Lu Cheng figured it out?

Scratching his head, Chen heard Lv Zhengbo call again: “Tomorrow, send Lu Cheng to the anti-pickpocket unit. Dinner’s on me—grilled fish! Done!”

Lv hung up quickly, fearing Chen’s objection.

Chen only realized after hearing the dial tone. No need to argue—best not to embarrass the CID.

Feeling content, Chen patted Lu Cheng on the shoulder. “We must be low-key. The CID needs face too! Haha…”

At that moment, Yuan Jie, Chen Zelong, and Zhu Yiping returned from fieldwork.

Yuan Jie, talking excitedly, said: “Heard the rumor? The case flipped! The Wu Hao we investigated isn’t the real culprit!”

Chen Zelong frowned. “Not him? But the murder weapon had his fingerprints!”

“Fingerprints don’t mean he’s the killer! There’s a real culprit behind the scenes! Criminal investigation is thrilling—especially with twists like this. Who could’ve guessed Wu Hao wasn’t the real killer?”

Yuan Jie tilted his head to the ceiling, dreaming of future cases.

Zhu Yiping asked eagerly, “So what really happened? Who’s the real killer?”

Yuan shook his head. “I don’t know the details. I heard Wu Hao confessed, but someone insisted a third person was present—the one who actually disposed of the body!”

Chen Zelong was shocked. “Seriously? Even after a confession, they found the real killer?”

Yuan nodded. “Probably Captain Qin. He’s experienced and spotted a clue, overturning the original investigation. Could also be Officer Su Qingwu—she’s a disciple of Ji Bochuan and has strong deduction skills!”

Chen Zelong nodded thoughtfully. “Investigating is fun… I want to join CID too.”

The three walked into the office, spotting Chen Weimin and Lu Cheng.

“Chief!” they greeted.

Yuan Jie’s expression turned awkward when he saw Lu Cheng. He, a top student in criminal investigation, hadn’t been fully involved in the case—yet Lu Cheng, not even formally trained, solved it. Unequal footing frustrated him.

Chen Zelong’s eyes lit up. “Lu Ge, tell us about the case twist!”
