- Chapter 5 - Jealousy Warps My Face! My Blind Date Is Su Qingwu!
Lu Cheng sat down next to Officer Su, and immediately, envious gazes from the other single men shot his way.
This brat’s luck came in waves!
First, he just happened to run into a wanted criminal. And now? He managed to snag the seat right beside the precinct’s goddess, Su Qingwu.
If only they’d come a little later, they might’ve had the “perfect excuse” to sit next to her instead.
Was today Lu Cheng’s lucky day? It seemed every good thing had fallen into his lap.
Su Qingwu ate quietly, every bite small and graceful, her elegant demeanor standing in stark contrast to the rough crowd wolfing down food around her.
If Officer Su ever did a mukbang stream, she’d definitely blow up—she was that pretty. Even just eating made her look captivating.
Chen Weimin and Song Chengfeng exchanged glances. At first sight, Lu Cheng and Su Qingwu actually looked like a good match—talented man, beautiful woman.
Chen Weimin chuckled. “Xiao Su, you really need blind dates. We’ve got plenty of single guys in the force. Look, the handsome lad beside you, Xiao Lu—he’s not bad at all!”
That sudden “assist” nearly made Lu Cheng choke on a fishbone.
Cough, cough!
Chen Weimin smirked. “Xiao Lu, your face is red! What are you blushing for?”
“Director, don’t frame me! My face is red from the fishbone, not… not that!”
Come on, Director—food you can eat recklessly, but words? You can’t just throw them around!
Now it sounded like he had designs on Officer Su. And she was sitting right there! How awkward was that?
Lu Cheng sneaked a glance at Su Qingwu. She didn’t so much as flinch, still eating with her cool, expressionless face, as if she hadn’t heard a thing.
Cold as ice.
Even when eating chicken, she carefully stripped it apart with her chopsticks, bit by bit.
Good thing the cafeteria had stewed it soft, otherwise she wouldn’t have managed.
That looks exhausting… why not just grab it with your hands?
Still, it suited her. So elegant.
Lu Cheng couldn’t help but wonder what she’d look like eating a burger. With those soft lips, she’d probably only manage to nibble the bun’s edge.
And despite taking delicate, ladylike bites, she somehow finished at the exact same time as Lu Cheng’s wolfish chomping.
“Xiao Su, the cafeteria food, okay? Had enough? If not, get some more.” Chen Weimin asked with a smile.
“The food’s good. I’m full, thank you for the hospitality.”
Su Qingwu stood, tray in hand, ready to clear it herself.
Chen Weimin waved her off. “Hey, Lu Cheng! Help Xiao Su with that, don’t just sit there like a block of wood!”
“Oh.” Lu Cheng obeyed.
The younger officers could barely hide their envy.
Why is the director helping him so much? Could he be trying to set them up?
Ah, jealousy really did make people unrecognizable.
After the meal, Su Qingwu prepared to take her leave.
“Lu Cheng, escort Officer Su home,” Chen Weimin instructed.
“No need, Director Chen. I’ll just grab a taxi,” Su Qingwu declined politely.
“What for? Waste of money. We’ve got vehicles.”
Chen Weimin waved off her protest and handed the order down.
It wasn’t that he wanted to play matchmaker—he barely knew Su Qingwu well enough to meddle in her love life.
But since Lu Cheng had just brought in a huge win for the precinct on his first day, letting him build ties with someone like Su Qingwu could only be good for his future.
Orders were orders.
Lu Cheng had no complaints, but when he received the keys, he froze.
An… electric scooter?
You’re seriously sending me to drop her off on an e-scooter?!
Chen Weimin gave him a look. “What? Too good for a scooter? You think I’ll hand you the precinct’s only police car? Dream on! Get going!”
Lu Cheng sighed. Stingy director…
He handed Su Qingwu a helmet. “Officer Su, let’s go.”
It was a Yadea electric scooter—not one of those tiny mopeds, but a big enough model with space at the back.
Even wearing that ugly helmet, Su Qingwu still somehow looked fresh and cute, her beauty undimmed.
Dressed in a short denim skirt, she naturally couldn’t straddle the seat, so she sat sideways behind him once he settled on.
“All right, take it slow,” Chen Weimin reminded, heading back upstairs.
The scooter rolled out of the precinct gates, and plenty of jealous eyes followed.
Lu Cheng’s peach blossom luck is way too strong…
…
The summer wind carried music as Lu Cheng rode.
He asked if she minded him listening, and Su Qingwu replied faintly, “Do as you like.”
What she didn’t expect was for him to blast his phone’s speaker at full volume.
Her beautiful eyes widened slightly. Thankfully the helmet shielded part of her face—otherwise she’d die of secondhand embarrassment.
This guy…
And so, on Sanli Bridge, a handsome young man rode an electric scooter with a breathtaking beauty on the back, music blaring, turning heads everywhere.
An Audi A8 cruised past, the driver rolling down the window, stunned. For the first time in his life, he envied someone riding a scooter.
This woman… she’s too beautiful. Absolutely stunning.
So it really was true—some girls would rather laugh on a scooter than cry in an Audi.
The summer breeze lifted Su Qingwu’s silky hair, brushing against the back of Lu Cheng’s neck, tickling him.
Then, a reckless taxi swerved in an S-pattern, nearly clipping them.
“You blind or what?!” Lu Cheng barked.
He tapped the brake—too sensitive! The scooter’s back wheel almost lifted off the ground.
The sudden stop threw Su Qingwu forward, pressing her against his back.
Lu Cheng’s muscles stiffened instantly, heat crawling up his neck.
Though tall and slender, Su Qingwu’s curves were full, and the pressure against his back was undeniable.
The feeling was… indescribably wonderful. Something he’d never experienced before.
Her jade-like fingers clutched the corner of his shirt as she steadied herself, brows furrowed in displeasure. But she said nothing.
“You all right? These taxis drive like maniacs…” Lu Cheng muttered, resuming the ride.
But conditions only worsened past the bridge. Delivery riders in yellow and blue zipped by recklessly, forcing him to brake over and over.
By the time they reached the upscale gated community in the west of the city, Lu Cheng’s back was sore from her repeated bumps.
“I’ll stop here. You live here?”
“Mhm.”
She removed the helmet and handed it back.
“Alright then… Officer Su, head on in. I’ll head back.”
He tossed the helmet into the trunk, but noticed she hadn’t moved, still standing there.
“Something else?” he asked.
“Was it Auntie Gu who set this up?” Su Qingwu asked softly, her long, fox-like eyes shimmering with a strange light.
“Huh?”
Lu Cheng blanked, brain lagging a few seconds before it clicked.
Wait. Hold on.
She’s… my blind date?
No wonder he thought it strange that she’d been at the same café for a matchmaking meet.
Turns out, his blind date was none other than Su Qingwu!
“So it’s… you?”
Lu Cheng’s expression was full of disbelief.
So, he was the lucky bastard after all.
