Chapter 277 Nangong Wan’s Family

“Ah?”

Hearing Nangong Wan’s words, Wu Li was momentarily stunned, his face showing a hint of disbelief.

After all, they had gotten along quite well recently, and Nangong Wan had offered him significant support while forging the Golden Thunder Flying Sword and during the time in the Azure Thunder Secret Realm. Now that she said she was leaving, Wu Li found it hard to accept at first.

But Nangong Wan’s gaze wavered briefly before firming up, and she sighed before saying,

“There’s trouble in my family. I have to go back for a while.”

“Your family?”

A thoughtful expression crossed Wu Li’s face. Over this time, he had never heard Nangong Wan mention anything about her family. To him, she had seemed like a lone cultivator—an independent practitioner—but now it appeared that wasn’t the case.

“Yes, I have to return.”

Nangong Wan nodded, her expression complicated. It was obvious that her relationship with the Nangong family behind her wasn’t a good one.

Just then, Wu Li spoke up.

“In that case, I’ll go with you. After all, we can consider ourselves friends now, and I want to do whatever little I can to help a friend.”

Wu Li didn’t hesitate at all. His Golden Thunder Flying Sword Formation had just been completed, and he was itching to use it. Tackling the Nangong family’s problems would also be a good opportunity to practice.

At his words, Nangong Wan’s eyes brightened, and she quickly nodded in agreement.

“So, where exactly is your family?”

“My family is in the Eastern Region.”

Nangong Wan looked toward the Eastern Region, across the distant space. That direction was unmistakably where the Nangong family was located.

At that moment, inside the Nangong family in the Eastern Region.

Nangong Jun, the family head, sat on his throne, surrounded by the elders of the Nangong family. Their expressions were grave and solemn.

After a long pause, Nangong Jun finally spoke.

“Everyone, I have already contacted Wan’er. She is expected to return in about half a year. By that time, she will marry the Holy Son of Tian’en Mountain, which will help solidify our relationship with Tian’en Mountain.”

Nangong Jun was, unmistakably, Nangong Wan’s biological father.

Hearing Nangong Jun’s words, the elders present all breathed a sigh of relief.

“That Wan’er girl is excellent—she’s talented, and with her status as the family head’s daughter, marrying the Holy Son of Tian’en Mountain will not bring any shame to Tian’en Mountain. It’s a win-win situation!”

“Nangong Wan herself belongs to our Nangong Family. By marrying the Holy Son Tu Fu, she’s also contributing to our family. Besides, Tu Fu’s talent is terrifying—at just thirty million years old, he has already reached the Immortal King Peak. It won’t be long before he ascends to Immortal Emperor.”

“If Wan’er knew this, she would be grateful to us. After all, her wish was always to become stronger. With the support of Tian’en Mountain’s resources, breaking through to Immortal Sovereign or even Immortal Venerable wouldn’t be difficult.”

The elders below spoke with relaxed, satisfied tones, none of them considering Nangong Wan’s feelings.

Only Nangong Jun sighed deeply, as if something troubled him.

“To bring Wan’er back, I didn’t hesitate to fabricate a story—that her mother was gravely injured in a battle with a demon beast and wanted to see her one last time. That’s how we tricked her into coming back. So when Wan’er returns, be sure not to mention the truth about her mother’s death.”

“Yes, Family Head, we understand,”

the elders present all promised with earnest nods and pats on their chests.

But they all knew, deep down, that Nangong Wan’s mother had not died battling a demon beast but instead from an accident.

Meanwhile, Nangong Wan herself was unaware of any of this. She was quietly traveling back alongside Wu Li.

Throughout the journey, Wu Li sensed Nangong Wan’s emotional heaviness but kept his comforting words to himself. After all, he did not understand what exactly had happened with her and decided that they needed to reach the Nangong family before knowing more.

Time quietly passed, second by second.

Half a year soon elapsed, and during this time, Wu Li’s cultivation advanced uncontrollably, breaking through from the peak of a Golden Immortal to the initial stage of a Great Luo Golden Immortal.

“We’ve arrived. Up ahead is the Nangong family.”

Standing atop a distant great mountain, looking down at a nearby town, Nangong Wan’s expression was deeply complex. The Nangong family was settled in a Blessed Land, and the town before them was merely the gateway to the family estate.

Just before Nangong Wan and Wu Li appeared at the gates of the Nangong family, Nangong Jun personally came out with the family elders to welcome Nangong Wan—an attempt to offer her some measure of compensation.

However, when Nangong Jun and the elders saw Wu Li standing next to Nangong Wan, their expressions darkened. If the Holy Son Tu Fu found out, he likely would not marry Nangong Wan.

“Wan’er, welcome home. And this is?” Nangong Jun looked at Nangong Wan with a forced smile, greeting her before turning to Wu Li to ask.

Nangong Wan showed no fondness toward her father and replied plainly, “Father, this is my friend. What, you don’t welcome him? If that’s the case, then I won’t be coming back.”

“That’s impossible. Wan’er’s friends are naturally our Nangong family’s friends. Come inside first, then we’ll talk,” Nangong Jun said with a smile, stepping aside to let them through.

Hearing this, Nangong Wan glanced at Wu Li and said, “Let’s go. We’ll talk inside.”

Wu Li’s expression grew serious as well. He could see the strained relationship between Nangong Wan and Nangong Jun—or perhaps, the tension extended to the entire Nangong family. But now was not the time to ask questions. He decided to follow her inside first and inquire later. From his perception, Nangong Jun was not even on par with Wen Juren, implying he wasn’t at the Immortal Emperor level. That meant he was still within Wu Li’s manageable range.

Soon, Wu Li followed Nangong Wan into the Nangong estate. Watching their backs disappear inside, Nangong Jun narrowed his eyes, a dangerous glint flashing within them.

“Family Head, what about this guy? If the Holy Son Tu Fu finds out, he might demand a new marriage candidate,” an elder approached Nangong Jun with a grave expression.

Nangong Jun waved off the concern. “No need to worry. Judging by the current situation, Wan’er’s relationship with this guy isn’t what we imagined. We just need to tell Wan’er this was her mother’s dying wish. Knowing her nature, she probably won’t refuse.”

“As for this guy, find an opportunity to deal with him—just make sure the Holy Son Tu Fu doesn’t find out.”

“Yes, Family Head!”

Wu Li still didn’t know that Nangong Jun and the others had already taken notice of him. At this moment, he followed Nangong Wan to a Side Courtyard that didn’t look very exquisite.
