Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

The night is too dark, and the few rays of moonlight that break through the clouds can only faintly illuminate the bloodstains on Ji Chen’s face. He is seriously injured. After putting the wolf demon into the jade gourd, he begins to heal himself on the spot. His bitten calf is exposed to the bone, and he uses his spiritual power to stop the bleeding. Once he feels recovered, he draws his spiritual sword, preparing to return with the jade gourd.

At that moment, the jade gourd shakes violently, spilling out a strange blood-colored demonic energy. Ji Chen is startled; he doesn’t expect that the wolf demon is still unwilling to submit, and its demonic power has actually increased several times compared to before! If it weren’t for the jade gourd being a high-grade artifact, it might shatter from the tremor. Ji Chen has no time to think; he quickly forms hand seals to seal the jade gourd.

However, the wolf demon inside uses all its demonic power to escape. Ji Chen struggles to maintain his hold for a moment, blood spilling from his mouth.

This is precisely the wolf demon’s opportunity!

With a surge of demonic power, the wolf demon finally breaks free from Ji Chen’s control. He cannot withstand such overwhelming demonic energy and spits out a mouthful of blood, clutching his chest as he stares fixedly at the jade gourd. The wolf demon is quite powerful, and the jade gourd is on the verge of breaking. If it escapes, Ji Chen, who has offended it, will not fare any better.

It’s all Yun Zhuoran’s fault. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have taken this mission…

At this critical moment, Ji Chen even finds the mood to curse, “I will definitely make Yun Zhuoran pay for this later!”

As soon as the words leave his mouth, a gust of cold wind blows in from behind.

Ji Chen stops, his instincts on high alert as he looks down to see a dark shadow reflected not far from his feet. Just one glance makes his heart nearly leap out of his chest; he has relaxed too quickly. Reacting hastily, he prepares to fly away on his sword, but the next moment, he finds himself unable to move. It isn’t that Ji Chen doesn’t want to fight back, but a surge of spiritual energy has suddenly wrapped around his limbs, crawling up his body like vines, binding him tightly in an instant. Ji Chen struggles violently, but a thick black mist rushes at him, instantly enveloping him and blinding him to everything around!

“Who is it?” Ji Chen shouts.

A slender, white hand picks up the jade gourd that contains the wolf demon, lying on the grass.

Unable to see anything, Ji Chen can only guess, “You must be the wolf demon’s accomplice!”

Three steps away, Yun Zhuoran and the heart demon glance at Ji Chen, who is ensnared in black fog like a silkworm pupa, but choose to ignore him. Yun Zhuoran opens the jade gourd, and a foul smell of blood immediately wafts out, causing him to frown. He roughly tilts the gourd towards the ground and pours out its contents.

The low, hoarse howl of the wolf echoes through the forest as the massive wolf demon collapses to the ground.

Ji Chen’s vision is obscured, but his hearing remains intact. Upon hearing the voice, he is immediately shocked. “You bold demon! How dare you rob people at the foot of my Tian Dao Sect! You insult my Tian Dao Sect’s disciples!”

Before Yun Zhuoran can react, the heart demon floats out, circling around Ji Chen’s ears with a mocking tone. “Is this an insult to you? But we haven’t done anything yet. How about we strip you of your clothes first?”

Although it is the voice of a young boy, the words are far from innocent. Ji Chen’s face turns pale as the boy continues in his ear, “Who did you say you’d make pay? Guess what—will you look better later?”

Yun Zhuoran immediately understands: the heart demon is venting its anger for him.

Ji Chen shakes with fury. “Monster! If you have the guts, let me go. Let’s fight fair and square. What’s the point of plotting against someone?”

The heart demon snorts. “I won’t let you go. I’ll suffocate you to death.”

Yun Zhuoran lowers his head and smiles, waving to the heart demon as he looks at the seriously injured wolf demon. After the heart demon vents its frustration at Ji Chen, it jumps back into Yun Zhuoran’s arms.

The wolf demon has reverted to its original form, with two significant blood wounds marring its rough black fur—one on the back of its neck and another near its heart. Deep red blood continuously oozes out, soaking its fur.

While the others are speaking, it secretly heals itself, seemingly unhurried. “You want to sneak into Tian Dao Sect too, right?” The wolf demon’s voice is a rough male tone, slightly hoarse from pain. It glances at Ji Chen and reminds him, “If you catch a Tian Dao Sect disciple, it won’t be difficult to sneak in. You saved me; I won’t fight with you. Just let me go, and if I’m ever in need, I will definitely repay you.”

Hearing this, Ji Chen immediately curses in anger, “You dare! You beasts, how can you touch the people of Tian Dao Sect? You must not want to live anymore! Let me go immediately, or my master will definitely skin you alive!”

The wolf demon smirks, enjoying the sight of the heart demon humiliating Ji Chen just moments ago. “Little cub, you’re still worried about your own life but dare to talk big? The one who doesn’t want to live is you.”

The heart demon feels confused. “Now they’re starting to argue, as if we don’t exist.”

Yun Zhuoran nods, rubs the heart demon, and releases it. Understanding his cue, the heart demon floats into the air, its black form swelling up significantly.

The wolf demon, seeing this, becomes even more animated, taunting Ji Chen with a grin, “You’re finished, you’re dead for sure! Benefactor, don’t let this little brat off!”

Yun Zhuoran lightly nods and, suppressing his laughter, says, “Don’t worry, we won’t let him go.”

In the next moment, the heart demon, having received permission, turns toward the wolf demon. The wolf demon reacts quickly and leaps away. The heart demon misses but quickly turns back to chase after it. The wolf demon, terrified, flees with its seriously injured body, screaming, “It’s useless to kill me! You can only get in by catching that kid!”

The heart demon, focused solely on eating, doesn’t care about the wolf demon’s words. In the pursuit, it nearly swallows the wolf demon several times. With no time for explanations, the wolf demon decides to get serious and unleashes its full demon power, clawing at the heart demon.

Yun Zhuoran is a little surprised. “Nascent Soul Stage,” he notes.

However, in the next instant, the wolf demon’s massive claw disappears, its demonic power being consumed. The strange red light quickly fades within the black mass. The heart demon seems to have tasted something delightful and accelerates, swallowing the dazed wolf demon in one gulp. The wolf demon probably cannot believe until its death that this black mass can devour its demon power.

From start to finish, it all takes just a moment.

The heart demon dispatches the wolf demon swiftly. Ji Chen only hears two mournful roars before silence returns, an eerie, terrifying silence.

The heart demon smacks its lips, shrinking quickly as it jumps back onto Yun Zhuoran’s shoulder. Its voice is soft, like a child who has just eaten candy. “It’s sweet!”

Yun Zhuoran takes note of the taste of the Yuan Ying stage wolf demon and casually pats the small black mass.

It is still soft and fluffy; one cannot tell it has just swallowed a large demon.

Ji Chen, who cannot see anything, trembles and asks, “What… what did you do?”

Only then does Yun Zhuoran have time to respond to him, snapping his fingers to disperse the black mist. Ji Chen’s figure gradually comes into focus, though his eyes remain obscured by a layer of light black mist, less striking than the black gas on his forehead.

Yun Zhuoran grows increasingly curious about this gray-black mass. He tosses the jade gourd back to Ji Chen’s feet and says with a suppressed smile, “Guess.”

Ji Chen thinks to himself, Guess what? At the same time, he feels a chill run down his spine at the hard object that rolls to his feet. Even when the Yuanying-stage wolf demon prepares to counterattack, he hasn’t been so frightened. It must be his inability to see; the unknown feels far more terrifying.

His trembling surprises Yun Zhuoran. In his memory, Ji Chen has always been arrogant, often provoking him foolishly. He doesn’t even need to do anything; this guy can bring him misfortune all day long. Surprisingly, he doesn’t expect the feeling of scaring him to be quite enjoyable.

But Yun Zhuoran soon finds it boring and casts a two-hour immobilization spell on Ji Chen, preparing to leave. He doesn’t expect the little black ball on his shoulder to drift away. Seeing the heart demon approach Ji Chen’s neck, Yun Zhuoran quickly reaches out and grabs it back.

The heart demon instinctively rubs against Yun Zhuoran’s palm. Yun Zhuoran asks, “Are you still hungry?”

The heart demon replies softly, “This person has a delicious smell.”

Ji Chen’s body jolts at the comment.

Yun Zhuoran frowns at the heart demon. “That’s foolishness; it’s contagious if you get too close.”

It’s not smart to begin with; if it becomes even stupider after being infected, Yun Zhuoran doesn’t want to keep it.

“……!!”

Ji Chen’s anger surges like a volcano. The heart demon, sensing Ji Chen’s fury, says in a frightened tone, “Is that so? Let’s go quickly; I don’t want to become stupid!”

Yun Zhuoran nods, takes the heart demon, and turns to leave. Their footsteps echo loudly, leaving Ji Chen with a strong sense of disdain.

Once the footsteps fade, Ji Chen finally finds his voice amidst his anger.

These evildoers… How dare they humiliate him!

“Assholes! Get back here! What did you just say? Who are you calling stupid? You’re not allowed to leave! Come back and say it again if you have the guts! Don’t let me see you again!”

Ji Chen’s roar resonates through the depths of the black forest, scaring the birds and beasts away. Yun Zhuoran ignores the noise behind him and is about to descend the mountain when he suddenly turns back to look in the direction of Tian Dao Sect.

A figure stands in front of the dense forest above. It is too dark for Yun Zhuoran to make out details, but he can vaguely see a tall, thin silhouette. As Yun Zhuoran turns around, the figure has already turned its back and disappears into the forest.

In the blink of an eye, the figure is gone.

Even Yun Zhuoran isn’t sure if that figure really exists; he hasn’t felt anyone there at all. Yun Zhuoran’s expression grows slightly cold as he waves his hand to summon his flying sword. “Someone saw us.”

The heart demon’s lazily swaying little tail abruptly stops, and the whole black mass tenses up.

“Where?!”

“Gone.” Yun Zhuoran shakes his head, a slight sense of unease passing through his mind. First, the wolf demon attacks a disciple of the Tian Dao Sect at the foot of the mountain to sneak in, and now, listening to the wolf demon’s words, it seems there are quite a few evil beings trying to infiltrate… The Tian Dao Sect is a righteous sect of the immortal path; how can these demons be so bold?

He should have known better than to eat that wolf demon first.

Yun Zhuoran feels a twinge of annoyance as he holds the heart demon in his arms and boards the flying sword. “Let’s go first and see if there are other evil spirits to fill your stomach.”

The most urgent thing is to feed the heart demon first.

Fortunately, after circling the foot of Tian Dao Sect, Yun Zhuoran discovers a mass grave full of evil spirits, allowing the heart demon to eat its fill—barely three-quarters full.

At the end of the hour of the pig, Yun Zhuoran brings the heart demon back to the Tian Dao Sect, casually repairing the breach in the barrier he has caused, erasing all traces before returning to the clouds. Hot on his heels, Ji Chen returns, seething with anger.

No one would remain calm after being robbed of a target they had finally captured and left immobilized for two hours. Ji Chen, disregarding his embarrassment, storms directly to the main peak’s Yaoguang Hall to complain.

Two young disciples guarding the hall are startled when they see Ji Chen, bruised and swollen, rushing in. They hurry inside the hall to report.

On the bright jade platform at the center of the hall, Shen Lingshu wakes from his slumber. He glances at the young disciple at the door, annoyance flickering across his face, but it quickly gives way to his usual gentleness. “What’s going on this time? Let him in.”

The young disciple bows and retreats.

Shen Lingshu exhales lightly, showing a hint of fatigue, and raises his hand to press against his eyebrows. He has just fallen asleep again, still troubled by thoughts of that person in his dreams…

As Shen Lingshu contemplates, his eyes grow a bit dazed, revealing a barely perceptible infatuation.

In the dream that has haunted him for months, the young man stands beside Gu Shenshu, glancing at him indifferently. His cold eyes seem to freeze Shen Lingshu’s heart, yet he cannot help but entertain an unspeakable thought:

Let those frosty eyes see him.

“Junior Brother Yun, Yun Zhuoran…” Shen Lingshu unconsciously curls his long fingers, murmuring softly, “Why do you always appear in my dreams? Are you my fated person?”

Before he can delve deeper into his thoughts, Ji Chen, bloodied and battered, storms through the door, his voice sharp from anger. “Brother Shen! There are demons down the mountain! They dared to rob the disciples of the Tian Dao Sect!”

At that moment, in the Baiyun Jian behind the main peak, Yun Zhuoran, who has finally fed his heart demon and enjoyed a moment of quiet, feels an inexplicable chill run down his back.

Yun Zhuoran pinches his itchy nose. Who is scolding him this time? Ji Chen?
