Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Looking at the strange sitting posture of Wen Jianxian and the other five, it is clear they are accidentally surrounded by poisonous gas while healing the Wu Clan child in the center, then fall into a dream and can’t free themselves.

With Lu Yu dealing with the giant bugs controlled by the Wu Clan man outside the cave, Yun Zhuoran focuses on forcing out the excessive poison gas inhaled by Wen Jianxian and the others.

But just as he sits down and begins, placing his palms on Wen Jianxian’s back and pushing his spiritual power in, a strong resistance suddenly appears!

Fortunately, Yun Zhuoran reacts in time to stabilize his spiritual power and isn’t directly repelled by the resistance, but before he can breathe a sigh of relief, he finds himself unable to move, let alone leave.

The heart demon notices the subtle change in his expression and immediately senses something wrong. “Brother?”

Yun Zhuoran quickly mobilizes a large amount of spiritual power in his dantian, pushing out more to resist the fierce opposition trying to overwhelm his spiritual flow. After a moment, he stabilizes the balance.

He can’t help but laugh at the stalemate: “As expected of the number one sword cultivator of the righteous path. Even imprisoned, Wen Jianxian sets up a very strong defense around himself. Any use of my spiritual power triggers the sword intent surrounding him. No wonder that Wu Clan member knows Wen Jianxian is in the cave but chooses to set a trap outside and not enter.”

The heart demon’s face darkens. He squats beside Yun Zhuoran and reaches out his hand to touch Yun Zhuoran’s arm, but then withdraws it, afraid of disturbing the delicate balance. “Is brother okay?”

Li Jianming looks full of disbelief. He circles the heart demon and moves to the other side of Yun Zhuoran. He asks blankly, “Why would my master attack at a time like this… Yun Zhuoran, how can I help?”

Yun Zhuoran gently shakes his head at the heart demon as silent reassurance, then instructs Li Jianming, “Wen Jianxian can mobilize his sword will to resist the outside world, which means he’s still conscious. Li Jianming, as his disciple, you can try to wake him.”

“Ah? Oh, okay!”

Outside, Senior Lu fights the giant bugs, shaking the earth. Now Yun Zhuoran is stunned by his master’s sword will. It is clear that Yun Zhuoran’s help is being blocked unconsciously by his master’s defense!

Li Jianming’s heart is as chaotic as ants on a hot pan. He tugs at his hair but kneels behind Wen Jianxian, takes a deep breath, and says softly, “Master, wake up…”

Yun Zhuoran remains silent.

The heart demon can’t bear it and stares at him impatiently. “Louder, don’t you have a mouth!”

“Okay, okay! I know!” Li Jianming presses his rapidly rising and falling chest, trying to ignore the bug roars and earth-rumbling outside. He leans close to Wen Jianxian’s ear, closes his eyes, and shouts, “Master! Wen Jiuchuan! I am your disciple Li Jianming! Don’t sleep anymore, wake up quickly!”

After his voice falls, Yun Zhuoran feels the sword intent resisting him falter for a moment. “Okay, there’s a reaction, try again.”

Li Jianming reluctantly shouts louder behind his master, “Master! My friend, Penglai Island Master Yun Zhuoran, is saving you! He’s helping remove the poison in your body. We’re not here to harm you!”

The heart demon nervously watches Yun Zhuoran’s hands.

This time Yun Zhuoran shakes his head.

Li Jianming instantly understands—no response. He bites his lip and, breaking all propriety, calls out his master’s name again: “Wen Jiuchuan, it’s really me, Li Jianming, your little disciple Ming’er! Stop guarding against us! Elder Lu outside might not be able to hold on much longer. Please loosen up, or better yet, wake up quickly!”

He keeps glancing back at Yun Zhuoran for confirmation, but Yun Zhuoran only shakes his head. With no other choice, Li Jianming continues rambling desperately: “Our Kunwu Sword Sect is in grave danger! The Wu tribesmen have infiltrated our mountain. If you don’t wake up, we’re all finished!”

From the first attempt at waking Wen Jianxian, Yun Zhuoran feels slightly less pressure, but since then, there has been no further change in the sword intent. He reminds: “Speak of things your master cares about.”

Heart Demon gives Li Jianming a look of pure disdain, eyes practically spelling out “useless.”

Li Jianming scratches his head, “Okay, what does Master care about… What does Master care about?” He mutters, grips his hair tightly, and suddenly his eyes light up. He tentatively whispers behind Wen Jianxian’s ear, “That Nine-Mystic Zither you like so much—I actually broke one of the strings by accident. Afraid of your scolding, I claimed I’d borrowed it in a hurry. In truth, I sent it down the mountain for my foster father to find someone to repair it. That string was ridiculously expensive, and I didn’t have enough spirit stones, so… I tried borrowing some from my foster father, but he told me that our Sword Sect still owes Changchun Pavilion for elixirs this year. The price of elixirs on the market has gone up recently, and my foster father said he can’t sell it to us at a lower price anymore.”

Yun Zhuoran and Weiran look at him with increasingly strange expressions.

Li Jianming can’t stand their gazes, lowers his head shyly, and says, “Father says the sect already owes Changchun Pavilion nearly 30,000 spirit stones. This year’s medicine money can be exempted temporarily, but the previous years’ debts remain. He just doesn’t want to trouble you with it…”

Yun Zhuoran’s brow twitches sharply.

The Heart Demon tenses. “Brother, what is it?”

“… There’s a reaction.”

The sword intent retreats, no longer trying to invade Yun Zhuoran’s spiritual veins but still guarding Wen Jianxian’s body, showing that Li Jianming’s nonsense works.

Yun Zhuoran signals him not to stop.

Li Jianming sniffs sadly but keeps going with courage, “Father says Master has deep feelings for him—that borrowing spirit stones was just an excuse to see him. Our sect can certainly come up with thirty thousand stones; we just hope he won’t give up on us… Foster father deeply admires you, Master. When I told him, although reluctant, he was moved too. For the sake of our Sword Sect, Master—can’t you endure it? Sell your beauty just this once?”

“Enough!”

The sword intent suddenly withdraws, and Yun Zhuoran takes the opportunity to force out the poison gas that has penetrated deep into Wen Jianxian’s body with his spiritual power. But it doesn’t last long.

He quickly withdraws his hand, pulls the heart demon up, and reminds Li Jianming, “Back off!”

Li Jianming is stunned for a moment, then quickly follows them to the cave entrance, wiping tears inside as he runs. He’s spilled all these things to his master—He knows that when his master wakes up, he is definitely doomed to a beating!

A dazzling light bursts from the circle formed by Wen Jianxian and the other five.

Yun Zhuoran subconsciously closes his eyes and suddenly feels a tightness around his waist. His body shifts passively, his back resting against the cold mountain wall covered with ice crystals, but the chest holding him is warm. Yun Zhuoran pauses and does not push the other party away.

When the strong light fades, Yun Zhuoran opens his eyes and sees the heart demon protecting him in his arms.

Yun Zhuoran smiles silently, looking over the not-so-broad shoulders of the heart demon.

In the strong light inside the cave, a tall figure holding a child in his arms slowly walks out, dressed in white, with sharp sword intent—it is Wen Jianxian.

Li Jianming’s face lights up with joy at the sight of that familiar, solemn face. But Wen Jianxian’s eyes turn on him, filled with complex emotions, and he barks coldly: “Unfilial disciple!”

The smile on Li Jianming’s face suddenly disappears.

Seeing his expression, which looks like he wants to cry but can’t, Yun Zhuoran and Weiran exchange glances then both break into quiet, knowing laughter.

Wen Jianxian ignores Li Jianming. Looking at him anymore gives him a headache. He just throws a cold look and walks toward the cave with the Wu Clan child. He stops in front of Yun Zhuoran and the others, nods, and says, “Thank you for your help, island master.”

Yun Zhuoran replies indifferently, “Master Wen is polite. The poison in your body isn’t serious. It’s not difficult to escape. We are presumptuous.”

Wen Jianxian says, “If the young island master had not helped, I’m afraid it would have taken more time for me to wake up.”

As he speaks, his gaze shifts to his eldest disciple Pei Heng and the two sect leaders lying unconscious behind him.

Compared to Wen Jianxian, they inhale much more poisonous gas and are probably still trapped in the dream. But before he can say more, Lu Yu’s impatient voice sounds outside the cave—

“Quit dawdling. If you’re awake, come out!”

Yun Zhuoran says no more, looks at the heart demon, and walks out side by side.

Wen Jianxian gives Li Jianming a faint look. Seeing his disciple lower his head like a child admitting fault, he can only sigh inwardly. Unable to think of how to scold him for the moment, he simply carries the child out.

Seeing this, Li Jianming follows him out.

The fishy smell outside the cave is strong. When the group steps out, the battle has already ended.

Lu Yu stands with his hands behind his back at the cave entrance, looking at the Wu tribesman on the snowy mountain opposite from a distance.

Several of them are cultivators, and their eyesight is enough to see the man wiping blood from the corner of his mouth. The black flute in his hand has disappeared, and his face looks paler than before, like a ghost.

One glance at the pit below is enough. Yun Zhuoran expressionlessly grips the heart demon’s chin and forces him to look away, while Li Jianming nearly vomits on the spot.

The big insects in the deep pit are broken into pieces, and the dark green smelly blood almost fills the bottom. The black insect bodies soaked in blood are still wriggling.

Even Yun Zhuoran doesn’t want to look a second time. He silently looks at the culprit Lu Yu and is speechless when Wen Jianxian behind him suddenly shouts in shock, “Little Kunpeng!”

Yun Zhuoran stares at Wen Jianxian in a daze.

Wen Jianxian regains his composure and turns to look at the man on the opposite mountain. Lu Yu doesn’t react.

When Wen Jianxian appears, the Wu clansman opposite suddenly steps forward a few steps, stands on the edge of the cliff, and stares at him coldly. His accent sounds a bit awkward, “Child, stay. You, can go.”

The man’s injuries are severe. Since he can’t defeat Lu Yu, before them he poses little threat.

Yun Zhuoran turns back indifferently and looks at Lu Yu’s back thoughtfully.

Wen Jianxian raises his voice and responds, “You Wu clan should know very well that before you send back the children you abducted from the outside clans, I will never hand back your chief’s son.”

Lu Yu tilts his head, “The chief’s son?”

Wen Jianxian says, “Yes.”

Yun Zhuoran looks at the Wu clan child in Wen Jianxian’s arms. The dark and thin boy still has his eyes closed. It seems he hasn’t woken up because of the poison gas in his body.

Weiran and Li Jianming come over to take a look. If this child is really the young son of the Wu clan leader, they can understand why Wen Jianxian saves him.

Just as Wen Jianxian finishes speaking, the figure of the man on the cliff suddenly disappears.

Li Jianming cries out in alarm, looking wildly about—only to see the Wu tribesman reappear not far before them. In his hand now is a black crescent-shaped scimitar. Its keen edge splits the wind and snow, unleashing countless arcs of green-black blade light that sweep toward the cave entrance!

Yet in that instant, a sharp sword light erupts from the cave mouth. Sword-intent manifests into form, piercing outward. With a single stroke, it effortlessly shatters the net of blade light and drives the Wu tribesman back. He is forced to retreat dozens of meters before barely steadying himself above the pit.

Wen Jianxian looks indifferent. “Go back, you can’t stop us. Tell your clan chief to release all the foreigners you caught.”

The Wu clansman, clearly wary of his chief’s son being in Wen Jianxian’s hands, looks again at Lu Yu and the others. After a brief hesitation, he finally chooses to retreat, vanishing into the distance.

After the Wu clansman disappears from sight, Wen Jianxian sighs lightly. His body shakes violently and he is about to fall down.

Li Jianming quickly helps him up. “Master!”

Yun Zhuoran and the others look over and see Wen Jianxian barely standing.

“I am fine.”

Seeing Wen Jianxian’s pale face, Yun Zhuoran understands and explains to Li Jianming, “There is still poison in his body. He just broke free from the dream and then exerted himself suddenly—Sect Master Wen is simply exhausted.”

Wen Jianxian laughs and sighs. “I really can’t hide it from the young island master. It’s not suitable to stay here for long. The Wu Clan definitely won’t let us go. We should return to the Sword Sect first.”

No one objects. After all, no one wants to stay by this deep pit filled with the corpses of the still wriggling big insects.

Unable to bear the stench, they take the three still sleeping in the cave to the flying magic weapon and, taking advantage of the night, rush back to Kunwu Jianzong as the wind and snow gradually subside.

Wen Jianxian meditates on the cloud boat for a while and recovers his spirit after returning to Jianzong.

The Law Enforcement Elders do not publicize what happens today. When they return, the mountain is quiet and peaceful as usual.

The son of the Wu clan chief is of extraordinary status. To guarantee his absolute safety, Wen Jianxian sends him to the master’s bedroom where he lives and asks someone to invite the doctor from Baicao Hall to treat him.

The Law Enforcement Elders come after hearing the news. Ji Ruo and Yun Shaowei follow them.

Finally, everyone gathers in the master’s bedroom of Jianzong.

Xu Zhichun, who has been climbing the mountain every day recently, has not yet left. After learning this, Wen Jianxian simply asks someone to invite him to heal Pei Heng and the sect masters of Tianji Gate and Mingyue Valley, who are still poisoned.

Yun Zhuoran and the others see them busy coming and going, so they all sit in the front hall waiting. They figure Wen Jianxian will have something to say about today’s matter.

Only a few guests remain in the front hall, and no one speaks.

Ji Ruo leans against Yun Shaowei and shivers, while Lu Yu holds a teacup and drinks tea leisurely.

Yun Zhuoran and Weiran stand not far away observing Lu Yu.

Lu Yu shows no annoyance, but Weiran is a little unhappy seeing Yun Zhuoran stare at Lu Yu for so long.

Weiran silently moves closer, wraps his arms around Yun Zhuoran’s thin waist, and mutters sullenly, “Brother, what’s so good about him?”

Yun Zhuoran says indifferently, “It isn’t that he’s pleasing to look at. I’m only surprised by Senior Lu’s identity.” He thinks for a moment and sighs. “For Penglai Immortal to ask for his aid must have cost quite a few favors.”

Weiran curls his lips. “What’s his identity?”

Yun Zhuoran remembers the ‘little Kunpeng’ Wen Jianxian blurted out when he saw Lu Yu and chuckles. “Nothing much. Just an existence in Shanhai Monster City whose status is almost above that of the city lord.”

Shanhai City, as the capital of the demon cultivation world, although called a city, has an extremely vast territory, and the city lord is the demon lord. Kunpeng is a legendary beast, extremely rare in the world. Even the demon lord has to show respect to it.

Yun Zhuoran has long heard that Shanhai City shelters a ‘Little Kunpeng.’ Though of impure bloodline, he is still the strongest hidden existence within the city.

One has to admit: Penglai Immortal has truly sent him a powerful ally.

The heart demon looks confused but only hugs Yun Zhuoran’s waist tightly, burying his head in his shoulder, and says sullenly, “I don’t care, brother. Don’t look at him. If you want to look, look at me. Am I not as good-looking as him?”

After saying that, the heart demon looks at Yun Zhuoran with a burning gaze, as if demanding an answer.
