Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Li Jianming is stunned for a moment, then laughs dryly. “Yun Zhuoran, you’ve been joking a lot lately.”

Ji Ruo, also shocked, nods vigorously, unwilling to believe what was said is true.

Only Yun Shaowei looks relieved.

Yun Zhuoran holds the heart demon’s hand and repeats, “I’m not joking. It’s true.”

The heart demon snorts, hugs Yun Zhuoran, and glances at the other three with the air of a queen.

Li Jianming and Ji Ruo are both stunned.

Yun Zhuoran looks at them and asks, “Any objections?”

Ji Ruo quickly shakes his head without thinking. He only knows Yun Zhuoran’s cold gaze makes him uneasy.

Li Jianming says blankly, “Unexpected, but reasonable…”

“As long as you understand. Next time, no matter who asks, you’re not allowed to tell them anything about my brother.” After issuing this warning, the heart demon smiles sweetly and tugs Yun Zhuoran’s hand. “Brother, let’s go.”

Li Jianming nods in confusion, still dazed by the shock. Only when Yun Zhuoran and the heart demon walk past him does he suddenly snap out of it and stare at the two holding hands tightly.

Ji Ruo stays where he is.

He is still rooted to the spot, while Yun Shaowei shakes his head. With an expression that says he has already seen through everything, he casts them a sympathetic glance and pulls Ji Ruo along to follow.

Li Jianming follows, dazed, muttering, “Is this Penglai’s custom? Everyone likes forming Dao companions with their demon pets and spirits? Wait—Yun Zhuoran actually already has a Dao companion?”

When Yun Shaowei hears the second half of the sentence—”I’m still single”—his mouth twitches slightly. Seeing Li Jianming muttering mysteriously, he hurriedly pulls Ji Ruo away.

After returning to the small building, Ji Ruo finally shows his first sincere smile since going up the mountain. He likes the constant temperature magic circle arranged by Lu Yu very much. Though he doesn’t say it, the looks he keeps throwing over show his deep gratitude.

Lu Yu is still sitting leisurely in the hall. Unlike before when the others left, the chessboard has been removed, replaced by a roll of bamboo slips in his hand. When he sees Yun Zhuoran return, he only nods slightly and buries himself in the bamboo slips.

Yun Zhuoran doesn’t bother him. He takes his heart demon upstairs and chooses an empty guest room to stay in.

Thanks to Lu Yu’s formation, the whole building is much warmer.

After Ji Ruo returns, he stays in his room and refuses to come out again, fearing Li Jianming will cause trouble and Yun Zhuoran won’t help him.

In fact, Li Jianming sends them back in a daze and leaves the same way, without thinking of taking revenge on Ji Ruo. After all, there are many old grudges between them.

Outside, snow falls heavily and doesn’t stop until nightfall. It will probably continue until dawn.

When Yun Zhuoran and Weiran go downstairs again, Lu Yu is still in the hall, but it has changed a lot, decorated with many exquisite items. The once simple wooden building suddenly looks magnificent.

Yun Zhuoran is stunned and takes his heart demon over. “It’s late. Senior Lu hasn’t returned to his room yet?”

Lu Yu curls his lips and says faintly, “The room’s too bad. I don’t want to stay there.”

Though Yun Zhuoran has half expected such words, hearing them still leaves him speechless. After a moment’s silence, he says, “If Senior Lu doesn’t mind, I’ll send the fox demon out to clean the guest room for you?”

To avoid conflict with Kunwu Sword Sect cultivators, Yun Zhuoran has taken the two demons back to the floating city before going up the mountain.

Lu Yu’s eyes light up immediately. “Okay.”

Yun Zhuoran understands Senior Lu is not only delicate and reserved but also lazy.

Since he is a helper invited by Penglai Immortal, Yun Zhuoran gives him face and lets the two demons clean the guest room.

The two demons turn pale when they see Lu Yu, just like before. As soon as Yun Zhuoran speaks, they turn and run without a word, as if running for their lives.

Yun Zhuoran has asked them about it before. Their explanation is that Lu Yu’s true body is a great demon—so powerful he utterly crushes them. For demon cultivators, there is an innate fear and reverence for higher-ranked great demons.

Lu Yu’s mood improves noticeably and he takes the initiative to speak to Yun Zhuoran. “Your little island master seems rather strange—his baleful aura is very heavy.”

The heart demon immediately looks over vigilantly.

Yun Zhuoran is also concerned about the topic. He glances around the empty hall where only a few of them remain, then slowly sits opposite Lu Yu.

The heart demon frowns and sits silently beside him.

“Senior, have you seen something?”

Lu Yu’s pupils are different from ordinary people’s. There is a faint golden light in the amber, magnificent and captivating. Yun Zhuoran is drawn to it but luckily focused enough not to be caught.

The heart demon at the center of the topic says nothing, just sits quietly staring at Lu Yu.

“I can’t say for certain. He seems to share a life connection with you—he may even originate from you. But his current form is vague, and I can’t determine whether he is demon or human.” Lu Yu ponders for a moment, his tone uncertain. “A being like this, beyond all normal categories—I call it Chaos.”

Yun Zhuoran is puzzled. “Chaos?”

Lu Yu explains, “I can see the Taiyin True Fire on you, yet I cannot perceive his true form. To me, he appears as a hazy, indistinct mass.”

Yun Zhuoran is surprised. “How did Senior Lu know about the Taiyin True Fire?”

At this, blood-red light flickers faintly in the heart demon’s eyes.

Lu Yu says calmly, “I’ve lived longer than you think and know many things you don’t. But this is the first time I’ve seen the Taiyin True Fire. If I’m right, you’re its incarnation. As for this vague existence of his—neither good nor evil, neither demon nor spirit—this is also my first time encountering such a thing. Earlier, when I played chess with him, he picked it up instantly. By the second game, he could already beat me. His comprehension is extraordinary.”

The heart demon says disdainfully, “It’s not difficult at all.”

Lu Yu replies, “You are too smart.”

Under Lu Yu’s flattery, the heart demon’s smile gradually becomes a little dazzled.

Yun Zhuoran frowns and holds the heart demon’s hand under the table. “Senior Lu has a sharp eye. Weiran and I both admire him very much.”

Lu Yu smiles and suddenly looks toward the door. “Your friend is here.” Tilting his head, he adds, “But he was stopped by a few girls. Someone said they wanted to give you a gift, a sachet.”

Yun Zhuoran extends his spiritual sense to check outside the building and indeed sees Li Jianming talking with several female cultivators. One of the female cultivators has slightly flushed cheeks and stands in front of Li Jianming, holding a sachet in her hand.

Outside the house, Li Jianming also looks embarrassed and says carefully, “Junior Sister Rong, actually…” Seeing the other junior sisters watching nearby, he worries that if he tells the truth in front of everyone, she might lose face. So he whispers to her in a low voice.

The one who wants to give the sachet is a pretty female cultivator.

Under the curious gaze of the other sisters, the shy smile on her face gradually disappears. After a moment of silence, she still presses the sachet into Li Jianming’s hand.

“It’s okay. Senior Brother Li often helps us run errands. This is my thank-you gift to him.”

The female cultivator then hurriedly turns and runs away. The remaining sisters look at each other—some chase after her, while others grab Li Jianming’s sleeves, asking what he said.

Yun Zhuoran looks at Lu Yu with an incomprehensible expression, not understanding why he cares so much about what is happening outside.

Lu Yu smiles and says to the heart demon, “It turns out the female disciple of the Sword Sect fell in love with your brother at first sight. It’s a pity the little disciple of the Sword Immortal declined on Yun Zhuoran’s behalf, otherwise you’d have an extra sister-in-law now.”

Yun Zhuoran: “…”

Clearly, this is trying to sow discord.

The heart demon is indeed angry but points at Lu Yu. “Why are you so nosy?”

“I was only telling the truth. Can’t you get jealous?” Lu Yu sighs dramatically. “Last time, I didn’t get to see you two finish your kiss, and I was terribly disappointed.”

Yun Zhuoran is speechless. So Lu Yu is planning to anger the heart demon, make him jealous, and then take the opportunity to watch them kiss?

But Weiran is still very clever.

Or so Yun Zhuoran thinks.

But the heart demon he thinks is smart frowns the next moment, takes Yun Zhuoran’s hand, and whispers in his ear, “Brother, what is jealousy?”

Yun Zhuoran: “…”

“No way, how come you don’t even understand this?” Lu Yu bursts out laughing. “Jealousy is just that when you see someone giving your brother a gift or talking to him a few more words, you feel sour and uncomfortable.”

The heart demon glares at Lu Yu but ignores him for the sake of Penglai Immortal and Yun Zhuoran.

Lu Yu suddenly feels bored and turns to look at Yun Zhuoran. “So, you’re inquiring about the Wu Clan?”

Yun Zhuoran suddenly feels that at last this helper is asking something serious. “Fengtian Temple is hidden deep within the Wu Clan. I heard from friends in the Sword Sect that the Wu Clan’s belief in them is more important than their lives.”

Lu Yu blinks. “Shouldn’t the Wu Clan believe in their Wu God? That hasn’t changed for thousands of years. Why did they switch to believing in Fengtian Temple?”

Under Yun Zhuoran’s steady gaze, Lu Yu raises a teacup and slowly explains, “The Wu Clan was exiled to the barren western continent over a thousand years ago for bringing calamity to the world. Funny thing, have you heard of the Wu Clan’s Curse? They have always rejected outsiders. Back when they flourished, their chieftain acted perversely—blurred right and wrong, despised foreigners, and often clashed with the righteous sects. Even when they already had the upper hand, he insisted on exterminating all outsiders. For that purpose, he even created a vicious curse. Who would have thought that the curse would ultimately fall upon their own people?”

Lu Yu seems to smile sarcastically. “It’s said this is punishment from the God of Heaven. This curse gathers all the malice of the Wu Clan towards other races. Those cursed are granted immortality by their Wu God, but as they grow, their bones break every full moon night and slowly reassemble. Every ten years, they must endure the pain of molting, which is worse than death. Few children survive such pain. The eyes of Wu children are light blue, which is one symptom of the curse,” Lu Yu says matter-of-factly but with some emotion. “This extremely evil curse on the Wu Clan was created by the Wu Clan themselves. Because of their ancestors’ evil deeds, the descendants of the Wu Clan have lived for 1,000 years as neither human nor ghost.”

Yun Zhuoran asks, “Is there no solution to this curse?”

Lu Yu shakes his head and chuckles, “The Wu Clan have always believed the way of heaven is unfair to them and only the Wu God can save them from water and fire. For over 1,000 years, they lived in this pain until a great priest appeared in the Wu tribe about a hundred years ago. He could alleviate the pain of adults caused by the curse.”

Yun Zhuoran raises his eyebrows. “The Great Wuzhu?”

Lu Yu nods, “I’ve never seen this Great Wuzhu, but I heard he’s deeply loved by the Wu Clan. After 1,000 years, the pain that their Wu God couldn’t solve was alleviated by this Great Wuzhu. Even if he can’t completely eradicate the curse, he’s made the Wu Clan feel much better.”

Yun Zhuoran guesses, “Could this Great Wuzhu have any connection with Fengtian Temple?”

The heart demon reminds them, “Isn’t there another priest in Fengtian Temple?”

Lu Yu smiles. “I don’t know about that. I only know the Wuzhu isn’t from the Wu Clan. It’s said he felt pity for the Wu Clan descendants, implicated by their ancestors and suffering such pain for so long. He vowed to spend his life breaking the curse for the Wu Clan. He’s a very kind and good person. But this was spread by the Wu Clan, so I don’t know the truth. By the way, this Wuzhu isn’t in the Wu Clan year-round. It seems he searches for medicine outside, hoping to eradicate the curse and ease the suffering of the Wu Clan descendants. The disaster won’t affect future generations. Although the Wu Clan brought this disaster upon themselves, their descendants are truly unlucky to have fallen so low. Over the years, the righteous sects haven’t exterminated the Wu Clan and have even allowed this Great Wuzhu to remove the curse for them. But I didn’t expect that the Great Wuzhu would disappear without a trace, while Fengtian Temple gained fame among the Wu Clan.”

Yun Zhuoran lowers his eyes and says, “If he really only wanted to help the Wu Clan out of their predicament, then he truly has good intentions. I’m afraid he is indeed connected to Fengtian Temple. With him as a matchmaker, it wouldn’t be difficult for the Wu Clan to accept Fengtian Temple.”

The heart demon says, “Whether it’s him or not, it’s a fact that the Wu Clan now believe in Fengtian Temple.”

Lu Yu disagrees with a smile. “Think about it from another angle. If the Great Wuzhu is really such a kind person, he wouldn’t bear to see Fengtian Temple use the Wu Clan as a shield. If we can get his help, dealing with the Wu Clan won’t be difficult.”

Yun Zhuoran continues, “After resolving the Wu Clan, Fengtian Temple won’t be able to hide behind them and cause trouble anymore, which will also help us eliminate them. But if he is related to Fengtian Temple, then this whole plan is meaningless. Senior Lu, may I ask—do many people know about what happened a thousand years ago?”

“You want to ask if Wen Jiuchuan knows?” Lu Yu snorts with a smile. “Kunwu Sword Sect can’t be unaware. But if even he can’t solve the Wu Clan’s problem, I’m afraid it’ll be difficult for you to do so. I advise you not to act impulsively. Wait for Wen Jiuchuan to return. If you rashly attack Fengtian Temple, those barefoot witches, who have nothing to lose, will give you more than enough trouble.”

Yun Zhuoran nods. “I understand. Thank you, Senior Lu, for the reminder. I won’t act rashly.”

Li Jianming is questioned outside the building for a long time. Now he is finally released by his junior sisters. He knocks on the door and pokes his head in. “What are you talking about?”

The moment Lu Yu sees him, he stands up and leaves for the upper floor without another word.

Li Jianming stands stunned for a moment, scratches his head, and walks in. “What’s wrong with Senior? Why did he leave as soon as I came in? Did we not play host properly?”

“Perhaps he’s just tired,” Yun Zhuoran replies casually. But his eyes can’t help drifting toward the sachet in Li Jianming’s hand.

A light snort comes from his side.

Yun Zhuoran turns his head silently and just catches the heart demon staring at the sachet with disgust.

Before Li Jianming reaches them, Yun Zhuoran slightly tilts his head and asks in a low voice, “What’s wrong?”

The heart demon gently pinches his fingers and says sullenly, “I’m unhappy. I’m jealous.”

Yun Zhuoran is speechless for a long moment. Just a while ago he hadn’t even known the meaning, and now he is already putting it into practice.

Indeed, Weiran really is smart.
