When the Cannon Fodder Male Supporting Role Picks Up the Script - Chapter 130
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
The pale white light of the Taiyin True Fire reflected on the two figures walking slowly. The person beside the red-clothed little island master wore a bright red dress and had snow-white long hair.
Everyone’s eyes involuntarily showed surprise. After a moment, they realized it was Yun Zhuoran.
Those who hated Yun Zhuoran still hated him deeply.
When Yun Duo saw him, no matter how he looked, her face was filled with undisguised jealousy and resentment. “You always ruin my good things.”
Yun Zhuoran said coldly, “I never owed you anything, but you keep hurting me.”
The heart demon frowned unhappily, and his dark eyes gradually turned scarlet.
Yun Duo laughed softly as if hearing a joke, her face twisted with near hideous resentment. “You never owed me anything, but your existence has taken everything I had. Since Brother Peiran broke off relations with me because of you, I’ve sworn that from that day on, there will be no you in this world as long as I’m in it!”
Yun Zhuoran’s patience, already limited, completely wore thin at Yun Duo’s selfish and unreasonable words. He no longer wasted words and asked directly, “Where is the Fengtian Temple?”
Yun Duo smiled coldly, and golden light suddenly appeared on her hand. “You’ll never know!”
As the words fell, Yun Duo’s figure blurred into a residual image. Only a golden flash remained, then she vanished, leaving behind only a faint rushing wind.
Yun Zhuoran’s eyes narrowed, and a pale white flame suddenly ignited before her, blocking Yun Duo’s sudden return.
Yun Duo glared fiercely at Yun Zhuoran, stretching out her hands covered in golden light and quickly forming a seal, intending to tear the flame apart.
A huge black and purple spirit butterfly leaped from Yun Duo’s hand, carrying a strong poisonous gas. It actually pierced the Taiyin True Fire and rushed straight toward Yun Zhuoran.
Without hesitation, Yun Zhuoran pulled the red-clothed boy beside himback half a step, then waved a cluster of flames. With a sizzling sound, the huge spirit butterfly covered in poison burned to ashes.
Next, Yun Duo’s golden light-covered hands clenched into claws and attacked through the remaining flames.
Unexpectedly, the golden light on her body—transformed from the power of faith into her own power—actually tore through the Taiyin True Fire. Yun Zhuoran was slightly surprised but counterattacked steadily.
After real fighting, Yun Zhuoran understood the golden light on Yun Duo’s body a little better and silently thanked fate for having reclaimed the Taiyin True Fire and skyrocketed her cultivation to the Mahayana stage. Otherwise, with Yun Duo’s current strength, if they really fought to the death, she would gain nothing. No wonder Yun Duo was so confident when she snatched the Taiyin True Fire.
However, things had changed. After more than ten exchanges, Yun Duo was obviously struggling. She shrank back and dodged whenever the Taiyin True Fire flared.
Yun Zhuoran suddenly realized that no matter how mysterious and powerful the golden light on Yun Duo’s body was, it was only half-formed. She couldn’t keep up with the powerful energy given by others. When she consumed a large amount of faith power in a short time, her body became overloaded and couldn’t sustain it.
In other words, her peak had passed.
Yun Zhuoran noticed Yun Duo’s attacks grew more desperate and the golden light on her body gradually faded. It was an obvious weakness. Without hesitation, he summoned a large amount of Taiyin True Fire.
Yun Duo was truly shocked and jumped back, quickly retreating from the battle.
Yun Zhuoran didn’t intend to let Yun Duo escape again. At least he had to capture her and find out the location of the Fengtian Temple. Thinking this, the Taiyin True Fire surged forward and soon caught up with Yun Duo.
Yun Duo’s expression tensed. She had no choice but to stop running and turned around, attacking the flames with all her strength.
The golden light collided with the pale white flames, and the compressed spiritual pressure exploded!
Yun Duo’s frail body was blown back by the massive shockwave, falling slowly to the ground.
Yun Tianqing and others nearby were also repelled by the powerful blast and couldn’t take care of themselves.
Yun Duo turned her head, spat a large mouthful of blood, held her chest, and trembled as she climbed up. Her face was pale and her expression full of pain.
The Heart Demon finally felt some satisfaction, mixed with pride. He glanced at Yun Zhuoran, and at the latter’s nod strode over in long steps. “Speak—where exactly is the Fengtian Temple—”
He stopped mid-sentence—
Because a golden light suddenly shot from Yun Duo’s palm, rushing like a spirit snake toward Yun Tianqing and the others not far behind her.
Seeing this, Yun Shaowei immediately stood in front of them without hesitation.
The golden light transformed into a rope and tightly wrapped around Yun Shaowei’s neck.
Yun Duo withdrew her hand, and the golden light around Yun Shaowei’s neck became like veins protruding from Yun Duo’s hand.
Yun Shaowei’s face turned red at a visible speed from suffocation.
Yun Tianqing and the others were shocked.
“Shaowei!”
Yun Duo gave a sarcastic smile to Yun Tianqing, her hoarse voice filled with malice. “I can’t take the Taiyin True Fire away, so I can’t really go back empty-handed. Yun Tianqing’s son is quite good, Brother Weiran. When you were young, Yun Tianqing cared for you like a brother.”
Yun Tianqing scratched several finger marks on the armrest of his wheelchair, then stood with wide eyes, staring at Yun Shaowei held by Yun Duo.
Yun Fushuang and Ji Ruo hurriedly supported him.
“I know you hate me,” Yun Tianqing said. “If you want to fight, come at me.”
Yun Duo sneered coldly, “You’ve been Lord of Yun City for so many years, don’t you know the principle of striking the snake at its seven inches?” She tilted her head and smiled at Yun Zhuoran. “This is Brother Tianqing’s only son. Brother Tianqing seems to care about him a lot. I think if he’s gone, Brother Tianqing will suffer greatly. Brother Weiran, don’t you think so?”
Yun Shaowei could make no sound, and the spirit in his eyes began to fade slowly.
Yun Zhuoran said coldly, “Stubborn to the end.”
Yun Duo probably thought that with Yun Shaowei in her grasp, Yun Zhuoran couldn’t release the Taiyin True Fire. Without it, she could at least retreat unscathed.
But the young man in red opposite glanced coldly at Yun Shaowei in her hand. A cold golden light suddenly lit his dark eyes. Then the Taiyin True Fire flared violently, turning into thunder and fire as it surged forward, extending in an instant into a sea of flames!
Yun Duo’s plan failed, and her face turned pale. Seeing the flames spread over her body, far stronger than when Yun Zhuoran had fought her before, she gritted her teeth and finally pushed Yun Shaowei away. Quickly, she made a gesture and condensed a layer of golden light barrier around herself.
If the fire Yun Zhuoran released just now was a trickle, this fire was like an ocean.
In an instant, Yun Duo was swallowed by it, and Yun Shaowei’s figure was engulfed by the pale white flames as well. Yun Tianqing’s face turned gray, his body shook violently, and he collapsed backward, as if he had lost all strength at that moment.
Master Yin in the distance sensed something was wrong. He stepped back several paces and without hesitation led his people away.
“Go!”
Several of Master Yin’s subordinates escorted him as the remaining Gu Jinping, no longer under guard, followed with a pale face, dragging Shen Lingshu, who was staring fixedly at the red shadow at the other side of the sea of fire.
Ji Yan, still trapped behind another wall of fire, sat on the ground, stunned and dejected.
Ji Ruo’s eyes reddened. “Cousin…”
Seeing Yun Tianqing and the others in such a low state, Weiran blinked in confusion, then looked back at Yun Zhuoran, who shook his head gently and waved his hand.
A narrow path suddenly appeared in the fire, and a figure gradually emerged in the light and shadow.
Yun Tianqing and the others were stunned. Before they could see clearly, a hoarse cough came from inside.
“It’s my cousin!” Ji Ruo’s sorrow turned to joy as he rushed over.
Yun Shaowei was still confused as he was helped out.
Yun Tianqing and Yun Fushuang stood silently for a long time, obviously still in shock.
Yun Shaowei, standing before them, had only a red and swollen neck and a pale face, but was clearly unharmed by the Taiyin True Fire.
Yun Tianqing looked at Yun Zhuoran and the other figure in the distance again. His anxious heart slowly calmed. He was filled with emotion. “So, Taiyin True Fire can not only take lives, but also save them.”
Yun Fushuang sighed in relief and nodded. “The Taiyin True Fire itself holds no right or wrong—it depends entirely on how the wielder uses it.”
Looking at Yun Zhuoran again, a relieved and grateful smile appeared on her face.
At this moment, the heart demon noticed that Master Yin and the others were trying to escape. He raised his eyebrows, stepped forward, and pulled Yun Zhuoran’s sleeve. “Brother, Master Yin and Shen Lingshu are trying to run.”
Yun Zhuoran’s cold eyes scanned the distance, and he slowly withdrew his fingers.
A cluster of flames ignited in his palm.
Suddenly, the flame in Yun Zhuoran’s hand went out, and his gaze turned toward the raging fire.
The heart demon asked, “What’s wrong?”
Before Yun Zhuoran could answer, the heart demon looked and saw a black and purple spirit butterfly suddenly burst out of the fire. Yun Duo’s figure hovered before him, her long hair disheveled and fluttering in the wind.
The instant their eyes met, Yun Duo’s bloodshot eyes fixed on him.
The heart demon exclaimed in shock, “Brother, she’s not dead yet!”
Yun Zhuoran wasn’t surprised. The flame in his palm flared again. The white light brushed through the night wind and blazed fiercer in the air, heading straight for Yun Duo. Seeing this, Yun Duo turned and fled without fighting.
Yun Zhuoran frowned slightly.
The pale white flame quickly drew an arc in the darkness and pursued Yun Duo.
Yun Duo glanced back, her expression growing tenser. She turned into a cluster of abandoned buildings but still could not shake off the fire. Gritting her teeth, she made for the exit of old Yun City.
There, she saw young master Yin and several people who had escaped secretly. Yun Duo’s eyes lit up as she flew toward Shen Lingshu.
When Yun Duo grabbed his arm, Shen Lingshu instinctively tried to shake her off, but she pushed him forward even faster. At the same time, he clearly saw the flame before him, his eyes widening in shock.
It was the Taiyin True Fire!
Unexpectedly, Yun Duo used him as a shield!
Gu Jinping was terrified at the scene and shouted, “Brother Shen!”
The dazzling white light silently struck Shen Lingshu, but at this moment, the golden protective light within him activated. His golden light barrier was purer than Yun Duo’s, pushing outward and smashing against the Taiyin True Fire.
Fine sparks of flame fell like rain, and when they touched people, they still ignited suddenly!
Two of Young Master Yin’s subordinates were struck by the sparks and, ignoring their dignity, screamed in pain.
The remaining embers still flew in all directions. Young Master Yin’s heart tightened as he watched his demonic cultivator subordinates writhe on the ground in agony, knowing these flames could ignore all magical defenses.
Panting nervously, he grabbed Gu Jinping nearby and, imitating Yun Duo’s method, used her as a shield.
The sparks in the sky finally fell to the ground.
Gu Jinping hadn’t expected to be caught by Master Yin, nor to encounter the last flying sparks. he scorching pain seared her very soul; she cried out on the spot, but it did nothing to ease the agony in her body.
“Brother Shen, save me!”
Shen Lingshu, still dazed, hadn’t expected to survive contact with the Taiyin True Fire. He took a breath and heard the screams behind him. He turned around slowly.
After safety was secured, Yun Duo released him, and Master Yin also let go of Gu Jinping.
Gu Jinping curled up on the ground, her head in her arms, her face pale, eyes bloodshot, and lips bitten until they bled.
She looked terrible—engulfed in extreme pain, slipping into madness.
If not for Gu Shenshu’s immortal bone protecting him, he would have ended up the same way. Shen Lingshu realized this belatedly, and cold sweat soaked his back.
At that moment, Yun Zhuoran arrived with his heart demon.
Seeing them, Yun Duo tried to flee.
Yun Zhuoran saw through her intentions and summoned a ball of fire. The Taiyin True Fire split into two strands mid-air and flew toward them.
Yun Duo grabbed Shen Lingshu’s arm. “Go!”
Shen Lingshu hesitated for a moment, then glanced down at Gu Jinping, who was reaching out to him weakly from the ground.
Her breath was rapidly fading. Several demonic cultivators infected by the Taiyin True Fire had already died before her. Gu Jinping struggled to raise her head and look at Shen Lingshu. Her lips moved slightly.
“…Brother Shen.”
Shen Lingshu despised her, but seeing her in such a state, he couldn’t help but waver.
Just then, Yun Duo shouted in a low voice—“Young Master Yin!”
Shen Lingshu snapped back to reality and saw Young Master Yin kneeling on the ground, face twisted in pain. A faint white fire was slowly spreading behind him. At some point, a spark had landed on him—despite thinking Gu Jinping had blocked them all.
He had tried to use Gu Jinping as a shield, but in the end, he still couldn’t escape.
Yun Duo extended a hand toward Young Master Yin, and he reached out desperately, “Aunt, save me!”
Yun Duo paused, then withdrew her hand. She looked steadily at Young Master Yin, then turned toward the Taiyin True Fire rushing toward her. Under Young Master Yin’s disbelieving gaze, she suddenly turned around, formed a hand seal, and tore open a spatial crack. She shoved Shen Lingshu into it and followed him in without looking back.
As the spatial crack closed before his eyes, Young Master Yin collapsed slowly to the ground.
By the time Yun Zhuoran and Weiran arrived, Yun Duo had already escaped with Shen Lingshu.
Yun Zhuoran frowned. He hadn’t expected Gu Shenshu’s immortal bone to completely resist the Taiyin True Fire, nor Yun Duo to use Shen Lingshu as a shield. She clearly knew how valuable Shen Lingshu was—next time, she wouldn’t be so easy to deal with.
Weiran checked the demonic cultivators lying on the ground and quickly returned. “They’re all dead.”
The heart demon glanced at Master Yin’s corpse for a moment longer. “I didn’t expect him to die too. The Demonic Star Sect is quite powerful in the demon world. Yun Duo didn’t save him, but chose Shen Lingshu instead. Isn’t she afraid the Demonic Star Sect will turn on her?”
“Master Yin is dead. The trouble may not be between Yun Duo and Fengtian Temple.” Yun Zhuoran shook his head. “Let’s go see Ji Yan.”
The heart demon didn’t quite understand, but seeing Yun Zhuoran’s grim expression, he nodded quietly.
When they returned, Yun Tianqing and the others had surrounded Ji Yan, who remained trapped in the Taiyin True Fire. Ji Wuwang was speaking to him.
Ji Wuwang had already been gravely injured before they came to his rescue. His clothes were stained with blood, his complexion pale, but his eyes lit up when he looked at Ji Yan.
Yun Zhuoran and the heart demon exchanged a wary glance. Would Ji Wuwang save Ji Yan?
To be honest, neither of them wanted to make an enemy of Ji Wuwang. His strange techniques and bizarre personality made him unpredictable.
But as they approached, they understood Ji Wuwang’s intentions. He had no plan to save Ji Yan.
Holding his chest, with blood at the corners of his mouth, Ji Wuwang smiled happily. “How delightful—so you have days like this too. This son is truly happy for you.”
Ji Yan was severely weakened by the Taiyin True Fire. Even though Yun Zhuoran had not allowed it to take his life, without Yun Duo’s protective golden light, he couldn’t escape.
Hearing Ji Wuwang’s ridicule, his face darkened. “I regret not strangling you to death back then.”
Ji Yan’s eyes brimmed with condemnation for this unfilial son.
Ji Wuwang chuckled. “Too late for that.” Then he looked toward Yun Zhuoran, his usual frivolity gone, his tone instead tinged with a request. “Young Island Master, I’d like to ask him a few questions.”
Yun Zhuoran considered briefly, then took Weiran’s hand and led everyone away.
Even Yun Zhuoran and the Little Island Master backed off, and Yun Tianqing and the others retreated tactfully as well.
From a distance, Yun Zhuoran and Weiran watched without trying to eavesdrop. But it was soon clear they couldn’t even if they wanted to—Ji Wuwang used a demonic secret technique. He no longer exchanged insults with Ji Yan and instead performed a dangerous soul-searching method.
Everyone saw him sit unsteadily in meditation, close his eyes, and form hand seals outside the fire circle.
Ji Yan cursed at first, but his expression soon changed. A strange blood light shone in his eyes.
About the time it takes to drink a cup of tea later, the blood aura around Ji Wuwang faded, and he opened his eyes. Ji Yan collapsed weakly inside the fire. Ji Ruo rushed over immediately and, though reluctant, helped Ji Wuwang up.
“What did you just ask him? Why did you keep everyone away? What’s wrong with him?”
Ji Wuwang didn’t respond. He gently pushed Ji Ruo’s hand away. Whatever was said between them, the evil aura around him had faded.
He looked at Yun Zhuoran and smiled, as if relieved.
“Fengtian Temple, deep in the Great Snow Mountain,” he said hoarsely. “But unfortunately, Ji Yan never saw that so-called god.” He paused, coughed lightly into his hand, and added, “When we return, I’ll tell you everything I saw in his memories.”
Yun Zhuoran glanced at Ji Yan, now barely breathing in the fire circle. Even without doing anything, the soul-searching had worsened Ji Yan’s injuries. Without treatment, he wouldn’t survive long.
Yun Zhuoran looked back at Ji Wuwang. “Alright.”
Ji Wuwang smiled, turned, and walked away. Despite his limp, his steps were unusually light.
Yun Zhuoran suppressed his curiosity. A small flame shot from his fingertip, landing at the edge of the fire circle and flaring half a foot high with a bang.
Ji Yan exhaled his final breath.
No one noticed the wisp of remnant soul that Yun Zhuoran quietly held in his palm and tucked away.
Everyone stared after Ji Wuwang’s retreating figure in confusion, but Yun Fushuang seemed to have thought of something.
She sighed softly, turned to the crowd, and offered a gentle smile.“Everyone’s tired. Let’s go back and rest.”
Everyone looked at Yun Zhuoran at first, as if waiting for him to make the decision.
Yun Zhuoran lowered his eyes and said, “Okay.”
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and began walking toward the exit.
Yun Zhuoran and Weiran intentionally stayed at the back. Yun Tianqing and the others were curious, but no one looked back.
After a few steps, Yun Zhuoran gently held Weiran’s hand.
The tips of Weiran’s ears turned slightly red. Just as he was about to turn around, he was suddenly pulled into a hug from behind.
“…Brother?”
Weiran’s cheeks flushed deeper.
Yun Zhuoran rested his chin on his shoulder, his eyes slightly lowered. “Weiran, can you carry me?”
“Okay!”
A strand of snow-white hair slid down from Weiran’s shoulder. He agreed without hesitation and immediately carried Yun Zhuoran on his back. Though not tall, carrying Yun Zhuoran was no trouble at all.
Yun Zhuoran didn’t seem to expect Heart Demon to agree so readily. As he lay on his back, he paused in surprise, then let out a soft laugh — so light it could’ve been carried away by the evening wind.
“Weiran.”
The heart demon followed behind the others and replied with satisfaction, “Brother.”
“When I have time, I’ll tell you something.”
This piqued the heart demon’s curiosity. “What is it?”
Yun Zhuoran leaned his face against his shoulder. His eyes were half-closed, his voice growing softer and softer. “We’ll talk about it when the time comes.”
The heart demon grew anxious, furrowing his brow. He couldn’t help but glance back—only to see Yun Zhuoran resting with his eyes closed. Alarmed, his breath caught, and he quickly called out, “Brother!”
Yun Zhuoran frowned slightly and replied helplessly, “I’m just tired and want to sleep. Don’t tell anyone, alright? Can Weiran take good care of me?”
The heart demon half believed, half doubted. “Really?”
Yun Zhuoran laughed silently to himself. Did Weiran really think the Taiyin True Fire was that easy to control? Not only had Yun Duo exhausted herself, he had also used the True Fire multiple times tonight, nearly burning through all his spiritual power.
Even though he was in the Ascension stage, his spiritual power wasn’t infinite. Worse, it was his first time truly controlling the Taiyin True Fire, and he wasn’t yet skilled with it—making it even more draining. Now his spiritual reserves were nearly empty. It wasn’t that he couldn’t catch up to Yun Duo, but she might have reinforcements, and Fengtian Temple wasn’t easy to deal with.
Still, he said nothing. He was too tired.
Half-asleep, Yun Zhuoran only remembered to whisper one last thing—“I’ll just sleep for a bit… I’ll tell you when I wake up…”
And with that, Yun Zhuoran fell asleep on the heart demon’s shoulder.
The heart demon was filled with worry, afraid something might go wrong, but he didn’t wake him. He cautiously examined Yun Zhuoran’s condition with a spiritual tool and felt no signs of pain. After thinking for a while, he slowed his pace and quietly followed Yun Tianqing and the others as they left the old Yun City.
But what exactly did his brother want to say?
Yun Zhuoran had no idea that his few words would leave the heart demon both anxious and curious.
And he slept for three days.
When Yun Zhuoran finally woke up, daylight filled the room. He was still in the small courtyard where he and Yun Peiran had lived for many years. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw the heart demon sitting beside the bed, focused on carving.
His spiritual power had fully recovered, and the Taiyin True Fire now rested quietly in his sea of consciousness, seemingly fully integrated.
Yun Zhuoran didn’t speak. He simply watched in silence for a long time. The carving in the heart demon’s hands was a little rabbit, still taking shape. He couldn’t help but wonder—why did Weiran always like carving rabbits?
When the heart demon turned to glance at the bed out of habit, he froze when he met Yun Zhuoran’s smiling eyes.
For a moment, both were stunned.
Yun Zhuoran blinked.
It was just a simple movement, but it sent the heart demon’s heart into a flurry. He could hear his heartbeat pounding in his chest.
Brother is so handsome…
But he didn’t even have a heart.
The heart demon snapped back to himself. His pale face turned pink, and he hurried to put away the wooden rabbit, wiped his hands on the hem of his robe, and whispered, “Brother, why didn’t you wake me when you got up…”
“Why did you hide it?”
Yun Zhuoran’s eyes lingered for a moment, then he sighed inwardly. Weiran was always so shy. He looked down in thought, then caught a glimpse of a strand of white hair on the pillow. He froze. With a strange feeling in his chest, he picked it up and twirled it in his fingers.
“Does Weiran think I’m getting old?”
The heart demon’s eyes widened. “Brother is not old at all! Brother is the most beautiful person in the world!”
Yun Zhuoran raised a brow. “Really?”
The heart demon nodded vigorously. “Of course!”
Afraid Yun Zhuoran wouldn’t believe him, he even held Yun Zhuoran’s hand—still clutching the strand of white hair—with both of his own. He said solemnly, “No matter how brother changes, in Weiran’s heart, you will always be the most beautiful!” As he spoke, the tips of his ears flushed again. He thought perhaps he should find a mirror to prove it to his brother.
Unexpectedly, Yun Zhuoran’s eyes softened, and he smiled faintly.
“But if I stay like this, I may never find a Dao companion. If Weiran truly doesn’t mind…” he looked at him deeply, “…would you be my Dao companion?”
