Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

After letting the elder of the Demonic Star Sect leave, Yun Zhuoran gets up and goes to the hot spring. He knows the heart demon will come back soon after leaving and hasn’t run out of the city lord’s mansion at all.

The heart demon lies in his room, so Yun Zhuoran doesn’t rush to find him. After bathing and dissipating the steam on his body, Yun Zhuoran slowly returns to the bedroom.

The city lord’s mansion occupies a spacious area, with many pavilions and towers, but no one has thought to arrange separate residences for the city lord and the master of Penglai Island. Yun Zhuoran and the heart demon never mention needing separate rooms, so almost everyone assumes they share the same room.

Yun Zhuoran pushes open the door and just as he steps inside, he hears the heart demon muttering softly behind the screen, sounding puzzled.

“What does this mean…”

Yun Zhuoran’s dark eyes curve into a smile as he quietly approaches.

The boy in red is lying on the bed, flipping through a book with a confused expression. The night in the floating city is a bit sultry. The boy blushes as he tears open his scarlet collar, revealing most of his snow-white chest, seemingly unaware of Yun Zhuoran’s approach—until his figure blocks the candlelight and a dark shadow gradually covers his head.

When the light suddenly dims, the heart demon stares, then sits up, throws the book onto the bed, turns around, and laughs dryly at Yun Zhuoran, avoiding his gaze as he shouts loudly, “Brother’s back!”

Yun Zhuoran nods quietly and pulls up the collar of the heart demon’s shirt, which is about to open to his abdomen, covering the boy’s skinny body.

He looks at the blue book thrown to the corner of the bed and asks, “What are you reading?”

“Nothing!” The heart demon grabs at his robe, flustered, and also clutches Yun Zhuoran’s wrist as he blinks and quickly changes the subject. “Brother, are you done with your business? Did that demonic cultivator say who Yun Duo is?”

Yun Zhuoran isn’t blind to the obvious and poor cover-up of the heart demon, so he doesn’t expose it. He sits slowly on the edge of the bed and says, “Didn’t Weiran hear everything?”

The heart demon laughs. “Did he say anything after I left?”

Yun Zhuoran says, “No.”

The elder of the Demonic Star Sect only talks about what he sees in Fengtian Temple, but the Fengtian Temple in his eyes is no different from what Yun Shaowei and others have said. The only special thing is that it’s mysterious.

The Fengtian Temple is indeed quite mysterious.

That demonic cultivator once served in the Demonic Star Sect and had been close to the sect master, yet even he only knows that their sect master became a follower of the temple and formed a close friendship with a saintess whose status is equal to the temple’s priest. He doesn’t know the temple’s location and has never seen the saintess who is said to have taught the sect master the way to longevity.

But the demonic cultivator is sure the so-called way to longevity is actually a kind of magic technique, even more terrible than the bloodthirsty technique their leader once practiced. In the past, it required human blood; now it requires human life, and it’s even more powerful.

After all, he’s a demonic cultivator and doesn’t think these techniques are cruel. He’s just quite dissatisfied that the leader handed over the entire Demonic Star Sect to Fengtian Temple in exchange for higher-level techniques. He fled after losing the battle for leadership and was unfortunately caught in the Sealed Demon Well.

Fortunately, the information the demonic cultivator provides isn’t completely useless. To summarize: first, the leader of the Demonic Star Sect sends his son to please the Saintess to obtain higher-level techniques, so Young Master Yin can be said to have been raised by Fengtian Temple; second, the Demonic Star Sect has long supported Fengtian Temple; third, Fengtian Temple now has two principals—the Grand Priest and the Saintess, who hold equal status, but no one has ever seen the priest, and only very few have seen the Saintess.

The Fengtian Temple claims that the god they worship is the true divine being—also known as the Dao of Heaven.

Since the heart demon asks, Yun Zhuoran gives him a succinct recap.

After listening, the inexplicable blush on the heart demon’s face subsides, and he frowns. “Master Yin was raised by Fengtian Temple? Then he has such a close relationship with Yun Duo. Could Yun Duo be…”

Yun Zhuoran shakes his head. “No need to jump to conclusions too early.”

The heart demon looks at him warily. “Brother, do you still think Yun Duo is the sister who took care of you when you were a child?”

Yun Zhuoran just says, “Don’t think about it. Go to sleep.”

But even now, Yun Zhuoran still hasn’t made his stance on Yun Duo clear.

The heart demon, extremely concerned about this, feels uncomfortable all over, rushes over, and hugs Yun Zhuoran’s overly slender waist tightly. “No, brother, I won’t let you sleep unless you tell me!”

Yun Zhuoran is amused and raises his hand to push the furry head buried in his chest.

“Yun Duo is clearly connected to the people of Fengtian Temple,” Yun Zhuoran says patiently. “No one knows why she returned to Yun City this time. First, she saved Yun Tianqing, then she deliberately avoided us. I’ve forgotten everything from the past, so I can’t guess her true intentions. But I suspect… Yun Tianqing knows something.”

The heart demon raises his head. “Then brother should be careful and not be fooled by this woman again.”

Yun Zhuoran pinches the cheek of the boy pressed against his chest. “Then Weiran, remember to always stay by brother’s side and guard me well.”

The heart demon is satisfied. “Okay!”

Yun Zhuoran looks at his smiling face helplessly and pats his cheek. “Still not letting go?”

The heart demon hums, then realizes Yun Zhuoran’s clothes have been rubbed open by him.

Yun Zhuoran has just taken a bath and is only wrapped in a thin, loose, bright red nightgown. No wonder the touch didn’t feel right…

It’s a little soft and warm…

The heart demon is stunned and subconsciously looks down. He sees a flash of white like snow in front of his eyes, and his cheeks heat up. He hurriedly turns his face away, lets go of Yun Zhuoran, rolls up the corner of the quilt, and curls into the bed, covering his eyes like an ostrich avoiding danger.

“Brother doesn’t dress properly. I’m dying of embarrassment!”

Yun Zhuoran is speechless. He’s never taught the heart demon to “accuse others first” like this.

Fortunately, Yun Zhuoran is in a good mood and doesn’t bother with the heart demon. Seeing the heart demon’s shameful and angry look, he finds it interesting, so he pulls the corner of the quilt and smiles. “Why didn’t I see you so shy before? Well, if you don’t like it, I’ll leave.”

As expected, the heart demon immediately lifts the blanket and sits up. His face is flushed, and he sneaks another glance at Yun Zhuoran’s chest and abdomen. The feeling from earlier still seems to linger on his cheek, leaving his heart fluttering with embarrassment, shy but very happy.

Brother has long legs, a thin waist, white skin, and looks good everywhere. I like brother the most…

The heart demon purses his lips to hold back the sweetness in his heart and asks, “Where are you going, brother?”

Yun Zhuoran replies, “To find another room to sleep in.”

The heart demon widens his eyes in disbelief, then stuffs the quilt in his hand into Yun Zhuoran’s and scolds with a serious face, “Sleep here. The room outside isn’t clean. Brother, don’t go!”

Yun Zhuoran raises his eyebrows, feeling both amused and confused. He can’t figure out the heart demon’s thoughts. Who does he get this character of ‘saying one thing but thinking another’ from?

In the end, Yun Zhuoran gives up trying to figure it out.

The heart demon presses him down to lie, afraid he’ll run off to another room, staring at him with a worried face while holding the corner of the quilt. Yun Zhuoran originally plans to practice but doesn’t feel sleepy. He can’t sleep more with the heart demon staring at him. Unexpectedly, the heart demon is the first to fall asleep.

When Yun Zhuoran opens his eyes, the heart demon is already asleep. His sleeping posture isn’t very good either. Yun Zhuoran has noticed this when practicing beside him before. But when the heart demon’s head presses on his chest, making him a little suffocated, and then his arms wrap around Yun Zhuoran’s waist and abdomen, and his legs press down, making movement impossible, Yun Zhuoran stares at the bed curtains with a confused look in his eyes.

Hearing the heart demon’s soft snores and confirming he’s asleep, Yun Zhuoran carefully pulls his hands free and reaches under the pillow to retrieve a book. He’s clearly seen the heart demon tuck it under there earlier.

By the faint candlelight filtering through the pale bed canopy, Yun Zhuoran flips to the cover and sees the title. His expression falters.

“Twenty-Three Affairs Between the Sword Immortal and the Sword Spirit?”

Yun Zhuoran furrows his brows, puzzled—what is this?

Still confused, he holds the book with both hands and flips it open over the heart demon’s head. When he sees the name Wen Jianxian on the first page, he’s slightly surprised. He had thought this book would be like the storybook the heart demon picked up before. Luckily, he realizes in time that such storybooks are sold in the market.

Wen Jianxian was famous in the cultivation world a hundred years ago, so it’s not strange for storybooks featuring him as the protagonist to exist.

But as Yun Zhuoran reads the first chapter and sees the sword spirit incarnation of Wen Jianxian make its appearance…

Wen Jianxian’s sword really have a spirit? And it could take human form? Yun Zhuoran recalled Li Jianming’s behavior from the past and thinks—probably not. If it really had, Li Jianming would’ve boasted about it endlessly by now.

So Yun Zhuoran keeps reading.

Then he sees the little sword spirit Jian Lin meet the sword immortal’s first disciple—and secretly fall in love…

Then Wen Jianxian finds out and is furious.

Then the little sword spirit is taken away by Wen Jianxian…

When Yun Zhuoran reads, “Consumed by jealousy, he imprisons the sword spirit and initiates their first night of intimacy,” his eyebrows twitch violently.

He flips to the next page and finds a colorful picture of two lifelike little figures, naked and clearly engaged in an intense embrace… Yun Zhuoran takes a deep breath, closes the book, and looks at the heart demon with complicated eyes.

If you have the guts to secretly read this ridiculous book, why don’t you dare to confess your feelings?

Yun Zhuoran still remembers that when he entered the room, the heart demon was reading it with great interest. Even a glance at the words hadn’t prepared him for the fact that this is an erotic book with such obscene pictures.

Yun Zhuoran is so disappointed he can’t help rubbing the back of the heart demon’s head hard.

The youth’s cheeks are flushed in his sleep, and though his hair is now a messy nest, he shows no sign of waking.

Yun Zhuoran’s fingers slide down and pinch the heart demon’s cheek lightly—equal parts exasperated and amused.

Spending all day secretly reading these strange and indecent things, and yet having the heart of a thief and no courage to confess.

The heart demon has a good dream. In the dream, he drives away Yun Duo and Shen Lingshu and becomes Dao companion with his brother. He’s so happy.

After waking, he grins happily. Once he regains some consciousness, he remembers sleeping with his brother last night and immediately wakes up fully. His eyes dart around looking for someone. He turns and sees Yun Zhuoran sitting at the head of the bed reading a book.

The heart demon smiles. His voice is a little hoarse upon waking, soft and crisp. “Brother.”

He turns over, hooks his fingers on the corner of Yun Zhuoran’s clothes, and plays with the fabric in his palm.

He feels so happy to see his brother’s beautiful face as soon as he wakes.

Yun Zhuoran lowers his eyes and glances at him, flipping the blue book in his hand with a faint expression.

The heart demon blinks up at him, unusually quiet and well-behaved. Seeing that Yun Zhuoran is fully dressed and clearly changed, he lets out a small, regretful sigh.

Suddenly, the heart demon’s eyes pause and return to the book in Yun Zhuoran’s hand.

From his angle, he can see the name on the book cover clearly…

The heart demon’s eyes widen. He subconsciously reaches under the pillow but touches nothing. He purses his lips, gets up clumsily, and sits next to Yun Zhuoran, looking very dejected.

“Brother…”

“Hm?” Yun Zhuoran responds, slowly turning another page.

The heart demon watches Yun Zhuoran eagerly, and when he sees he doesn’t even look back, he whimpers softly, tilts his head, rests it on Yun Zhuoran’s shoulder, hugs his arms around him, and whispers, “Brother, I know I was wrong. I’ll never read this kind of weird stuff again!”

Yun Zhuoran disapproves, “How can you say it’s weird? Didn’t Weiran read it seriously last night? I think there must be something worth learning in this book. It’s worth reading.”

The heart demon sees Yun Zhuoran almost reaching the last page. How can he not know what the storybook is about? Thinking his brother has also read those absurd plots, his ears flush and he lowers his head in shame. “Brother, don’t read it. I really know I was wrong…”

The last time he peeked at the fire avoidance map, the heart demon at least knew to hide it and could pretend he didn’t understand. But this isn’t the first time—and Yun Zhuoran has already nearly finished reading. He definitely knows the heart demon is just pretending to be clueless…

The heart demon sniffs, annoyed with himself. Why did I sleep so deeply last night and forget to hide the book?

But Yun Zhuoran isn’t angry at all. After finishing the storybook, his beautiful flawless face is thoughtful, seeming to have some enlightenment. He slowly closes the book and asks the heart demon gently, “Where did this book come from?”

The heart demon groans inwardly. Here it comes…

He raises his eyes to meet Yun Zhuoran’s gentle, encouraging gaze.

Fake. It’s definitely fake. The heart demon thinks, brother must be very angry, thinking I learned bad things!

Under Yun Zhuoran’s encouraging gaze, the heart demon says dejectedly, “It’s the fox demon.”

Yun Zhuoran nods, “It’s him again.”

The heart demon hangs his head, not daring to speak.

Then Yun Zhuoran laughs. “Very good.”

The heart demon sighs.

All he knows is—trouble is coming from the fox demon again.
