Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

“Yun Duo, Yun Duo…”

The heart demon whispers the name, his fingertips suddenly gripping Yun Zhuoran’s sleeve as he glares coldly at the woman in purple. His eyes are sharp, and at a glance, he notices a faint moon-colored scar on her cheek.

Yun Zhuoran also looks at the purple-clothed woman called Yun Duo with a strange expression.

When Yun Zhuoran sees the names Yun Tianqing and Yun Fushuang in the Yun genealogy record, they feel somewhat familiar, even if he doesn’t remember them clearly. But when he sees the name Yun Duo, he feels nothing at all. Now that he sees her in person, he feels no warmth—only a vague unease.

According to the genealogy, Yun Duo is indeed the sworn sister of Yun Peiran — which makes her Yun Zhuoran’s sworn elder sister. Even if Yun Zhuoran doesn’t remember, Yun Peiran, who is close in age to Yun Duo, surely would. However, before Yun Peiran’s disappearance, he never once mentioned anyone named Yun Duo.

Because of this, Yun Zhuoran assumes that this so-called sworn sister named Yun Duo might have perished in the strange fire twenty-eight years ago. Yet here she is, reappearing at such a critical moment.

So then, why has Yun Peiran never spoken of her all these years?

Yun Duo has no blood relation to Yun Zhuoran, nor to Ji Ruo or Yun Shaowei. She is merely a foster daughter taken in by the Yun clan. Naturally, Yun Zhuoran sees no purple thread connecting her to any of them. He lowers his eyes, suppressing the faint golden light flashing through them. As things stand, he cannot confirm whether Yun Duo’s identity is real or not.

Never mind how shocked Ji Ruo and the others are at the sudden appearance of this Yun Duo, who claims to be Yun Zhuoran’s sister—Yun Feng laughs disdainfully after a brief silence.

“I’ve been in Yun City for many years, and I’ve never heard that the Young Island Master has a sister.” Yun Feng seems unwilling to waste time with the newcomers. He turns to Yun Zhuoran. “Young Island Master, you should go find the treasures your brother left behind.” He glances meaningfully at Yun Shaowei, who has a sword at his neck. “Does the Young Island Master really not care about their lives at all?”

Yun Shaowei’s spiritual meridians are sealed, leaving him immobile and mute. His face flushes red from holding his breath. As Yun Zhuoran looks over, Yun Shaowei shuts his eyes tightly with a determined expression, as if prepared to die rather than yield.

In fact, Yun Zhuoran has never promised to save Yun Tianqing. The five people present at the time know that Yun Zhuoran only says he would go to the banquet. Yun Shaowei knows this well, and now he falls into despair.

Yun Duo sneers, “Do you think it’s just a coincidence that I arrived in time? To be honest, Yun Feng, I’ve long suspected something was wrong in Yun City. I sent people to investigate. Before we entered the city tonight, those reinforcements from Fengtian Temple that you planted in Yun City were already captured by us!”

At her words, Yun Zhuoran, along with the others, turns to look at Yun Duo.

The person standing behind Yun Duo is Young Master Yin, whom they met not long ago in the Floating City.

Under many surprised eyes, Master Yin shakes his iron fan as usual and says with a half-joking, half-serious smile, “I just happened to hear that Aunt Yun Duo has been short on manpower lately, so my Demonic Star Sect naturally contributes. Maybe after Yun City is pacified, I can talk to the city lord about business cooperation between Yun City and Demonic Star Sect.”

Ji Ruo understands Master Yin’s provocation when he glances at him at the end of his words. He curses him silently as a shameless opportunist but restrains his anger—as long as they’re helping, if it means saving his uncle and cousin, he doesn’t mind Xingxiu Sect stealing a bit of their Demon Palace’s goods. He might even persuade the Demon Palace to make peace with Demonic Star Sect.

When Young Master Yin finishes speaking, he tosses an object forward. A palm-sized wooden statue lands on the flat ground in front of the altar.

Yun Feng’s face changes, staring at Master Yin in disbelief. “The Saintess Statue? This is a personal matter between me and Yun City! If your Xingxiu Sect stays out of it, once I seize the city, we can still collaborate!” Gritting his teeth, he adds, “If your Demonic Star Sect helps me take Yun City, I’ll even share it with you!”

“It does sound very tempting.” Master Yin puts away his fan. Seeing Yun Duo tilt her head to look at him, he coughs lightly and quickly says solemnly, “But I can’t refuse to give face to Aunt Yun Duo. After all, Aunt Yun Duo has a close relationship with my Demonic Star Sect. This young master has grown up under Aunt Yun Duo’s eyes since childhood—how could I disappoint her over something so trivial?”

Yun Duo sighs helplessly and urges, “Master Yin, it’s time to save people.”

Master Yin smiles and says, “Yun Feng, right? I advise you to let him go as soon as possible. No one will come to save you tonight. Besides, you see, the two island masters of Penglai are here, and the Young Master of the Demon Palace and his eldest young master are also here. Do you really think you can be their opponent?”

Ji Ruo suddenly wakes up and follows Master Yin, speaking calmly, “If you release my uncle and cousin, I can spare you tonight. But if you resist to the end, don’t blame the Demon Palace for being merciless!”

Ji Ruo is not confident, and subconsciously looks toward Yun Zhuoran after speaking.

Yun Zhuoran remains calm.

The heart demon stops speaking. Since Yun Duo and Young Master Yin suddenly appeared, both Yun Zhuoran and the heart demon know—they likely won’t need to act tonight.

“Okay! It seems your Demonic Star Sect is going to oppose my Fengtian Temple!” Yun Feng grits his teeth and glares at Young Master Yin. “To oppose the Fengtian Temple is to oppose the way of heaven. You will definitely regret it!”

Yun Feng looks at the people under the altar, hesitates for a moment, then suddenly moves his feet.

At the same time, Yun Duo opens her eyes wide and shouts, “He’s angry and wants to take action first! Stop him!”

In an instant, Yun Feng is beside Yun Shaowei, raising his hand to grasp the long sword.

“Hurry and save my cousin!” Ji Ruo rushes forward without thinking—but someone else is even faster. A breeze brushes past his shoulder. Ji Wuwang’s tall figure in black has already appeared at the edge of the altar. In another blink, he’s right in front of Yun Feng.

But Yun Feng’s sword is already poised at Yun Shaowei’s neck. Ji Wuwang watches helplessly as the sharp blade slices a thin line of blood across Yun Shaowei’s neck—his hand still a full foot away from the blade.

Just then, a streak of golden light flashes out, wrapping around the sword and forcibly knocking it from Yun Feng’s grasp. Ji Wuwang seizes the moment and strikes Yun Feng with a palm!

Heavy spiritual pressure presses against Yun Feng’s face, forcing him to retreat half a foot.

But Ji Wuwang keeps chasing him.

In a blink, two afterimages—one black, one blue—move several feet apart on the altar.

While the two are locked in battle, Ji Ruo rushes up onto the altar. At this moment, blood gushes from the wound on Yun Shaowei’s neck, soaking his snow-white collar in just moments. The color rapidly drains from his face.

Ji Ruo doesn’t know how badly he’s hurt. He only sees his neck bleeding heavily and trembling uncontrollably. He can’t find medicine in the storage magic tool for a long time.

Someone slowly walks to his side. Without a word, they raise their hand and make a seal.

A light purple spiritual power, like a blooming flower bud, covers Yun Shaowei’s neck. When the flower blossoms, the bleeding stops.

Ji Ruo stares at the person in a daze.

The female cultivator who calls herself Yun Zhuoran’s older sister—Yun Duo—has bright eyes and fine features. She’s beautiful, and her skin is so fair that, under the glow of the pale violet light, Ji Ruo inexplicably senses something sacred about her.

Yun Duo unties the restraints and ropes on Yun Shaowei. It’s only after Yun Shaowei coughs lightly and slides weakly to the ground that Ji Ruo comes to his senses and hurriedly helps him sit up.

Yun Duo doesn’t say a word to anyone. Seeing Yun Shaowei being cared for by Ji Ruo, she turns around and begins untying the restraints and ropes on Yun Tianqing.

Only Yun Zhuoran, Weiran, Young Master Yin, and Shen Lingshu remain under the altar.

But everyone clearly sees that it’s Yun Zhuoran who saves Yun Shaowei just in time.

Ji Wuwang and Yun Feng fight farther and farther away. Within a few breaths, the two reach the edge of the vast square. A loud boom sounds. Before anyone can follow, all that remains at their location is a dense cloud of black mist. Fortunately, Ji Wuwang’s figure quickly flies out of it.

Ji Wuwang stands beside the slowly dispersing black fog for a moment, then flies back.

“He got away.” Ji Wuwang says to Yun Zhuoran, “He is stronger than me, and can even catch up with you.”

However, in the eyes of Ji Ruo and most people in Yun City, Yun Feng only has cultivation at the early stage of Golden Core. How can he suddenly improve to a strength that Ji Wuwang says can catch up with Yun Zhuoran?

Unfortunately, Yun Feng’s sudden escape leaves no one able to answer that question for now.

Yun Zhuoran stares at the lingering black mist in the distance, feeling that something is off. If Yun Feng is that powerful, why does he flee so easily?

A harsh coughing fit sounds from atop the altar. Everyone turns to see Yun Shaowei clutching his still-unbandaged, bloody neck as he runs over to Yun Tianqing, who has just been laid down.

Yun Tianqing’s eyes are still dull, and he sits on the ground in a daze. Yun Shaowei coughs hoarsely, “Father, wake up…”

“Your father’s sea of consciousness has been sealed for too long. His soul is also damaged, and he has serious old injuries. I’m afraid those may flare up again,” Yun Duo says as she stands and steps aside. Seeing the wound on Yun Shaowei’s neck, her brows knit in pity. She adds, “The yin energy here is too heavy. It’s not suitable to stay. He must be taken back to recuperate immediately.”

Ji Ruo nods hurriedly, “Yes, cousin, let’s go back quickly.”

Yun Shaowei sees that Yun Tianqing does not respond to his call, so he knows Yun Feng’s words about closing the sea of consciousness are true. He purses his lips, hiding the resentment in his eyes, and nods gently.

“All right.”

The group returns to the City Lord’s manor.

Yun Zhuoran and the heart demon linger at the rear of the group.

Both are somewhat absent-minded, but their eyes follow Yun Duo all the way.

After returning to the City Lord’s Mansion, Yun Duo follows the steward to settle Yun Tianqing. She appears to be a medical practitioner. Ji Ruo and Yun Shaowei, worried, follow into Yun Tianqing’s residence. While they are busy, Yun Zhuoran and Weiran stand quietly outside the courtyard like Ji Wuwang and the others, waiting. Young Master Yin sits alone, and Shen Lingshu keeps to the corner, not approaching anyone.

Ji Wuwang has never tasted defeat in his life, but Yun Feng’s easy escape makes him uneasy. As he thinks back, he realizes he couldn’t keep up with Yun Feng’s speed. Even when they clashed, Yun Feng deflected him effortlessly—proof that the man’s strength vastly exceeds his own.

For this reason, Ji Wuwang specifically asks Yun Zhuoran to estimate Yun Feng’s true strength.

Yun Zhuoran hasn’t fought Yun Feng, so he can only guess that Yun Feng is at least at the Integration stage, or that Fengtian Temple is truly helping him behind the scenes.

Ji Wuwang nods thoughtfully, then walks aside to think quietly.

The bright candlelight reflects several busy figures on the window paper. Yun Zhuoran watches silently. Yun Duo’s figure is easy to recognize, but he always feels something is off, though he can’t say why.

Maybe because it’s too quiet beside him, Yun Zhuoran finally notices the heart demon’s abnormality. He tilts his head and sees that the red-clothed boy is also staring at the silhouettes on the window paper, but his face is unusually cold.

When the heart demon shows no expression, the immaturity and innocence he usually carries vanish instantly. His eyes are extremely deep, and a faint blood-red glow gives off a sinister, bloodthirsty aura.

Yun Zhuoran has never seen the heart demon like this before.

He gently holds the back of the heart demon’s hand. “What are you thinking about?”

The heart demon looks at him in a blink.

Maybe because he has lost his usual immaturity, Yun Zhuoran feels a little strange inside.

“Brother.”

Yun Zhuoran nods. “Yeah.”

The heart demon’s eyes grow complicated, as if he wants to say something.

But at that moment, the door opens and Yun Duo slowly walks out.

When the heart demon sees her, he suddenly tenses up. “I don’t like her.”

Yun Zhuoran is stunned for a moment. He doesn’t understand why the heart demon says that for no reason. Since Yun Duo appeared, she hasn’t interacted with the heart demon at all.

He asks, “Why?”

“Weiran.”

Before the heart demon can answer, Yun Duo, who has been talking with Master Yin by the door, walks toward Yun Zhuoran. Her eyes hold a pool of autumn water—clear, tender, and full of warmth.

The heart demon’s face grows colder and colder.

Yun Duo is completely unaware. She seems to see only Yun Zhuoran in front of her. When she stands before the two, nostalgia shows on her face. She purses her lips and smiles. “I haven’t seen you for many years. You’ve grown up.”
